This comes from "John-John", "Tall-Paul", Mike and Tim too!. When we grew up, many a Sunday was spent with our families playing softball, basketball and many other activities. Uncle Tony always took time to greet us when we came into town and made the effort to see us off. Being able to spend some time at dinner and the next day at the train station in the summer of 2005 mean't a lot to me and my family. My Dad (Bob) passed away when my daughters were young and my son yet unborn, but they some some of that loving kindness and warm sense of humor in their Great Uncle Tony. To Sue, Gary, Tom, Mary, Joe, Margie, Mark and Roger; may God be your source of great comfort and strength each and every day. John and the "Oregon" Joerres'

Dear Joeress Family,

As others have said, I too have fond memories of your Dad's kindness, sense of humor and of course the garden. Not sure if he planted all of those tomatoes to feed the family, feed the neighborhood or for therapy:) - I suspect it was a little of all of those. Of course when he bought the swimming pool that was a big hit (I think it was only about 3 feet but it felt olympic size on a hot summer day).

I am sure he is smiling down on each and every one of you as you have all made him proud over the years. Somewhere up in heaven there is a garden that just got a whole lot greener. I wish you all strength during this difficult time.

To the Joerres family; when my husband Jon & I were married a little over 18 years ago--our first place together was living above Tony & Bernice on E. Armour Ave. Tony was one of the funniest, friendliest people. We haven't probably seen him since we moved out & bought our own place 14 years ago--but he was always very good to us. One thing I remember was the huge, huge garden he & his family planted every year. He would always invite us to pick anything we wanted to & they were probably the best vegetables I've ever had. When I heard the news about Tony, I felt so bad because he was one of those people you just don't forget. God keep you all in your grief & give you peace & cling to all the wonderful memories. To Sue and all the family,

Your Dad was one of the nicest individuals I have ever known. Growing up with you and later, having your Mom and Dad watch our son, Timmy, was a privilege! Your Dad would also keep me up to date with the goings-on of the family - he was so very proud of all of you! Our prayers are with you this sad day!

May Tony's family receive comfort from the Holy Spirit during this sad time, and know that we will always remember "the governor" at St. Stephen's Parish. His guidance at Parish Council meetings and his sense of humor about life in general will be the things we'll always remember and cherish. Bless you, Tony from Tim and "his daughter."

Tom:

I remember seeing your dad at some of the WKLH parties, and I admired the connectedness of your family.

I'm sure you will miss him horribly, but he lives on in you and your children in that you became the people you are because of him.

Dear Sue, Gary, Tom, Mary, Joe, Margie, Mark & Roger!

Growing up next door to your family has left me with a life time of stories! You Dad was kind of silly. He’d pretend to get words mixed up. He’d get “shopping” and “shop-lifting” mixed up. He’d ask: “You chickens going shop-lifting”? Sometimes he’d say “LSD” when he meant “ESP” which always left us teenagers with a confused look on our faces. No matter how much time has passed, he’d always plant two dozen tomato plants. Eight kids in the home ... two dozen plants. Eight kids moved out of the house ... two dozen tomato plants! But, those were the best tomatoes I’ve ever eaten; right from the garden to the hose and salt shakers! And you guys always had the best sled riding hill in the neighborhood! (Of course you all had THE toboggan ... it fit more kids.) Dogs, pigeons, rabbits ... you had them all. You must also have a photo album full of pictures taken in front of THE pine tree. My, how time has passed. Those were the days!

To the Joerres Family: May you find comfort in the many fond memories created throughout the years.

Bless you and yours at this time.

Hugs,

Marie Mikorski

My memories of Mr Joerres will be life long memories. He was a such a generous person. He included me into his already large family with open arms, from taking me to Blue Boy for an ice cream to giving me the extra CANDY BAR he bought for his children each Friday. I'll forever remember him yelling from across the street "Maria, how are ya". He will truly be missed.
