It's the 238th Birthday of the United States Marine Corps, Sunday, November 10, 2013. You've been at eternal rest for 8years, 6months, 2days; yet, it feels like yesterday when you left to Serve in Gods Military. Tomorrow is Veterans Day and I will post on FB a THANK YOU to ALL who have served, past, present and future. But you my SON, I am the PROUDEST of. You chose a path that put you in harms way and served your country well; with PRIDE and HONOR. For that I am forever GRATEFUL, for you are MY SON.
I LOVE AND MISS YOU WITH ALL THAT I AM AND COULD EVER HOPE TO BE, Mom <3

Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and also let the Goodwin Family know that we recently sent Care Packages to American troops in the war zones. Each box carried a dedication sheet that includes the name, service information and a photo of your loved one. We recognize that this is a humble tribute, but we wanted you to know that it is heartfelt and made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals in the youth hockey community and beyond. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you strong.
Sincerely,
Charlie Gili & Family

July 4, 2012.
Your favorite holiday of the year has pasted. Your dad and I spent our time in the Catskills. So quite and peaceful; no fireworks, no music. I kept remembering the July 4th, 1982 at Fort Devens, Ma., the day and year you looked at me and told me you were going to be a U. S. Marine. In November 1989 you were sworn in and you started your military career......was the proudest day of my life when you marched across that open field at graduation, Parris Island, S. C. in February 1990.
You are so LOVED and MISSED........NEVER FORGOTTEN
Always in my Heart

Today is Mother's Day, 2012. 7 years ago I lost my baby boy, my oldest son, my pride and joy, Anthony. God I miss you so much. I sit here waiting for a phone call that I know isn't coming. I want to hear you say those words " Happy Mother's Day Mom, I Love You!" I understand why your not here, but then I don't. Am I being selfish wanting you back? Am I being selfish not wanting to share you with anyone or anything? You're suppose to be here making sure I'm okay and doing all the things I'm suppose to be doing in my life. DAMN IT Anthony!!!! Why aren't you here? WHY!!!!!!

Another year has just about come and gone. Even though it's 7 years since you left to be with our Lord and Savior, the pain still remains the same.
I miss our talks, your smile and laughter, the way you would make gestures with your hands, your hugs and kisses, the touch of your hand; I miss you so much.
You'll always be my HERO and PRIDE AND JOY. My first baby and my little boy.

The Soldier Falls
There is a special type of man
That comes from this, our promised land
He is full of love for his country
With a desire to serve, becomes a sacrifice.
A man born to fight for freedom freely gives his life.
In war, death is expected men will die
At home, there is sadness
Fathers mourn and mothers will cry
As American, we take great pride in our armed forces
Heroes give their lives for Liberty and America rejoices.
I stand here today, as freedom rings true, knowing it's because of you.
And with these words, I say “Thank You!”
A part of you is gone “But we will never forget”
As the soldier falls we owe a great debt.

I met Tony while we were at JTF-6 in Panama with the Corps. Tony was a real Marine.
I went to visit his family in LeJeune
the Christmas after he got back from OIF I.
The last time I saw him was in November of 2004 and we both deploying to Iraq. We both had a feeling we would never see each other again.
Miss you brother !!!

This Mother's Day was as difficult as the first Mother's Day when they knocked on the door 6 years ago. I thought it would be easier as the years went by, but knowing that every 6 years the 8th of May will fall on Sunday, Mother's Day, brings all the emotion flooding back into my Heart and it becomes overwhelming to the point where I can't think straight. I become numb and I feel alone. I miss you my Son, my Hero. I miss your smile, the sparkle in your eyes, the sound of your voice.......I LOVE YOU MY SON, MY HERO.

I met Tony during training at Camp Lejeune. He just oozed Marine Corps from every pore in his body! I will never forget when he overheard me saying that I lost my poncho, and showed up with his spare one the next morning...no questions asked. He was that good of a Marine! Semper Fiddlier Brother! We will never forget you!

Dear Goodwin Family,
My heart goes out to your family and what you have experienced over these last few years. I served with SSgt in 2nd Marine Regiment and I was in the area on that horrible day. I was honored to see the traveling portraits of him and the other Marines from 3/25. All the Marines loved him and miss him very much. I'm sure he is guarding the gates of Heaven, keeping it safe. God Bless You.

To the family of Staff Sgt. Goodwin,
Please know that just as your loved one will remain in your hearts and minds, his sacrifice and that of your family, will remain with the people he died defending. Words cannot express the gratitude we feel for his bravery and selflessness, or the heartache we feel for your loss. God grant you the peace that passes all understanding.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Anthony, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

I served with SSgt Goodwin in Iraq with RCT-2. He was a hell of a man. I was the Personnel Officer and worked in his admin shop. He was having some allotment problems, so I got to know him quite well. He was the kind of person that would do anything for you once he got to know you. I am sorry for your lose, his memory will live on in my mind as long as I am here on this earth.

Dear relatives of Anthony, my son SSGT Russell J. Verdugo is buried in Arlington National Cemetery along with your hero. Anthony died just 13 days before I son was killed in Baghdad. I took some photos last Memorial Day Week-end 2007 and have a photo of your Anthony’s grave site and marker. If you would like a copy emailed to you, please let me know. I know we are so very proud of our fallen heroes, but we miss them so.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.
REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

SSgt Goodwin what can I say. Like others have said he was nothing but a Hard Charging and Motivated Marine. I was at my 1st duty station when I met SSgt Goodwin, I thought at the time he was a too hard of a Marine. Now I look back and he was only trying to make the best Marine out of yourself.

My heart felt condolences go to your family and friends. I worked with SSgt Goodwin at Camp Lejeune back in 2000. I was pregnant the same time his wife was and our boys are about the same age. I remember him well and respected him. At that time he was a Sgt and I a Lance Corporal. He made a lasting impression on me because as Marines know, we work with many people over the years and you cant remember all of them but some you never forget!

I got to know Anthony on our way over to Iraq for OIF in 2003. He made me and the other Marines laugh every day with his stories and jokes. He was an outstanding leader who always led by example. He did what was right for his Marines and always put them before himself and even his career. He is a true hero in every sense of the word and I will miss him, and never forget him.
Anthony, I will keep your family in my prayers daily, and look forward to the day when we guard Heaven's streets together.
