I remember the first day he arrived at JFK as Area Director. He felt overwhelmed by what he saw but quickly adjusted and turned it around. He was an outstanding guy and a credit to U.S. Customs. My condolences to his family.

Dear Annette and family,
We are terribly sorry about your loss of Tony. In addition to his being the best boss I ever had in terms of doing the job, he also always looked out for the well-being of his employees. And it is very clear that he was a wonderful family man. Jenny and I always looked forward to our meetings in Florida and hope to eventually see you back there, perhaps with some of your grandchildren.

To the Liberta family,
I was part of a team that worked at the opposite end of the table, on the union side, during many tense bargaining sessions where Mr. Liberta was involved.
Though our goals were seemingly different, one thing that we on labor's side always felt about Mr. Liberta: he was a gentleman, fair, and true to his word. What finer thing can be said about a person.

To Annette and family, our sincerest sympathies. Marie and I both worked for Tony in various capacities during his career. We enjoyed working for him as Tony set standards which encouraged all to give their best effort. He was in many ways an ideal manager who could relate to his mission and to the people who were tasked to complete it.

Dear Mrs. Liberta and Family, I was honored and blessed to have met Tony in 1991. He was a blessing in my life, if he didn't hire me I truly don't know where I would be today. And I know there are many more out there that can express the same. He defined class in the truest sense. He was a man of honor and dignity. Just know he was loved by many and truly changed many of lives for the better. May he rest in peace and may God give you and your family peace in this difficult time.

More than a great boss, we became friends after he hired me in 1973 as an intern. He was instrumental in paving the way making a career at U.S. Customs. I will always be grateful. He put the word "family" in the Customs Family. A true gentleman, may he rest in peace. My sincere condolences.

Annette and family, my wife Sue and I offer our sincere sympathies. I considered Tony a friend, who was always willing to lend a helping hand when needed. In 2007 when our Daughter Jaime died in a tragic accident his words of sympathy were from the heart. My wife's memory is a little better than mine. She remembered Tony attending her fathers wake in Whitestone in 1982 and sharing his experience of working in a butcher shop in Whitestone when he was young .
My 27 year carreer in Customs gave me great respect and admiration for him. Our golf games were similar long and at times all over the place. It was an honor to have known him and I know he was vey proud of all of you.

I am very sorry for the Liberta family's loss. For a few years I spent quite a bit of time with Mr. Liberta in mostly contentious labor/management situations. Despite our differing agendas, I always found Mr. Liberta to be the most competent professional
manager I have met. Not only did he excel at representing the U.S. Customs Service, but he went out of his way to help individual employees and all those who worked for him as a whole. He will be missed by all who knew him. May he rest in God's peace.

Tony visiting Bermuda Pre-Clearance in 1982. Always the consumate professional, he wouldn't take off his tie or put on a pair of Bermuda shorts.
