MARCUS, Dr. Anthony Martin
With sadness the family of Dr. Anthony Martin Marcus wishes friends and colleagues to be informed of his death on December 13, 2013. His funeral took place at the Temple Sholom Cemetery in White Rock, B.C. on December 15, 2013. Dr. Marcus was born June 21, 1929 in London, England. He was predeceased by his parents. He was educated at Cambridge University and Montreal General Hospital resulting in a doctorate in Psychiatry. Dr. Marcus joined the faculty of Medicine and Psychiatry at The University of British Columbia and was some years later made a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons. Dr. Marcus will be remembered as a noted Forensic Psychiatrist and Professor Emeritus of The University of British Columbia where he was a professor and chairman for over 30 years. Tony was broadly educated, well-read, knowledgeable and ever interested and active in the Arts, travel and his Jewish heritage. He is survived by his son Adam Duval Marcus (Vancouver), his brother Leslie Marcus (Pam) and their family in Bristol, England and his Vancouver extended family, Peggy Koopman, Kirsten (Sutton) Osterreicher and Olivia Osterreicher. He will be dearly missed by family and friends and the many patients whose lives he touched in kindness. Tony and God waged a battle together against a very gloomy prognosis resulting in him spending four more precious years with us than expected. At the end of his life he died peacefully in the Palliative Care Unit of Vancouver General Hospital after only a few days. Donations in his name can be made to the Department of Psychiatry at UBC through the website for the Vancouver General Hospital Foundation.

Dr. Marcus saved my oldest son's childhood helping me get a diagnosis for his learning disabilities and for that I'll be ever eternally grateful to him. May God bless and keep him always.
