Anthony Oliverio Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jul. 14 to Jul. 19, 2020.
Anthony Joseph Oliverio

"His personality made our staff shine!" "He was my compadre" "My Paisan is having a nice glass of red wine right now in a better place."

Dementia set the stage and Covid-19 was the chariot to take Tony to that better place. Anthony Joseph Oliverio exited July 7, 2020. For all who knew him he was bigger than life, greeting all with a dazzling smile and a hearty hug. At 94, he'd seen combat with the Navy in WWII at D-Day, sung with the Ames Brothers as he subbed for Ed Ames in performance and for 3000 of his fellow soldiers & sailors in a USO show, co-founded the national industrial chemical company Share Corp and served as its Senior VP until his retirement in 1988, served as President and was a life-member of Nevada's Italian Benevolent Society founded in Virginia City in 1872, and traveled around the world with his wife (when it was still fun to travel) making lasting friendships in many countries.

Tony is survived by his wife of 43 years, Nettie; his brother Vincent Oliverio (Angela); his sister Rose Burlingame; his nieces Rita Oliverio, Barbara Silo, Vicky Vecchiarella, Carolyn Adams and Becky Plunkett; his nephews Carmen Vecchiarella, Vincent Vecchiarella, Vincent Oliverio, James Crowder, Austin Crowder, John Burlingame, Richard Oliverio, Daniel Oliverio and John Oliverio; his brothers-in-law Jay Crowder, John Crowder and Hobert Plunkett; his sister-in-law Iris Shelton and his great-nieces and nephews.

In the Age of Covid, rather than coming together we ask that you hug your loved ones, raise a glass and share a joke Tony would have enjoyed and, if so moved, contribute to the David J. Drakulich Foundation's program providing art therapy for veterans coping with PTSD.

I just found out that my uncle Tony died July 07, 2020. To say this saddens me is not even close to describing my hurt at this time. (August 19,2020 Ever since I was a child back in Salamanca, Ny uncle Tony was one of my three favorite uncles that I relished seeing every chance I got. MY uncle Tony was many times Mr. New York State in body building championships but that was far out shined by how classy he was. Every time he came back to Salamanca it was like a National Holiday for me and my cousins. He would roll on the lawn with me and never failed to make that day the most fun day it could be. One time he drove up in front of his mothers home on Elm street and we happened to be visiting. I still remember the beautiful yellow Buick Convertible he had. I remember seeing him drive up with the top down and everybody was so excited. My uncle Tony was, as were all my uncles, quite the ladies man, and as a young boy I always smiled when he drove by the Riverview or even Dudley hotel with one of our beautiful Salamanca girls. As I grew older I knew I envied him! I last saw uncle Tony was in 1965 when my girlfriend Sharon and I flew to Reno to get married before I had to go into the Army. (Actually I went into the Marine Band) Uncle Tony took us to the County seat to get our marriage license and took us out for a beautiful dinner. Uncle Tony always had a mustache, and I couldn't wait for the day I could grow one just like his. And I did! I knew he had a problem with dementia, and for that reason I am glad his suffering is over. Selfishly I still miss you uncle Tony! Nettie, I am sorry we never met but you must have been a very special woman. Thank you being there all those years with my uncle Tony! I hope we do get to meet!

Tony was a kind and generous man. I first met him while working at the Gem casino (aka Crazy Jacks). He would come in to sell his products over the years I worked there. He along with Jack Fulton and the gang would have some great laughs. Tony was like a fine wine and aged well. Also remember small visits on his porch while my wife and I meandered around the San Rafael park neighborhood. Peace

Very sorry--It's been too long since we saw him. Or Nettie, for that matter. He was indeed most pleasant and easy to know--we shared a love of travel when it was virus free. We are all on the same chariot ride eventually.

When Tony arrived in Heaven, God said to him, "Welcome home, good and faithful servant." To the Oliverio family: Tony was one of the finest gentlemen I have ever had the privilege of knowing and I will miss him dearly. May God bless you and protect you with His guardian angels.
Ciao Bello and rest well... TS
