I am blessed. I think I may be breaking conventions by speaking out about an in-law, but I think my father-in-law Anthony A. Polo was a very special guy. Allissa has already relayed his tremendous virtues, which are many and I will not repeat, but I will add this postscript - I knew my father-in-law for 35+ years, during which he and my mother-in-law vacationed with us, lived with us, and most importantly, laughed with us, but it simply was not enough time for me. In my 35+ years every moment spent with my father-in-law was joyful. I admired him and reflect on how much he has added to my life and my familys lives in big and little things, like our love for Disney. Most are unaware, but my family would not be such huge Disney fanatics if not for my father-in-law ~ not that he was so enamored of gigantic animated rodents, but he loved the architectural genius of the parks and how they made things work, something that lives on within my family. He appreciated and loved to share beautiful architecture and craftsmanship wherever he went - you would be amazed how much you could learn about the bricklaying craft based on his elucidation of the beautiful Plant building brickwork at the University of Tampa.
I started with the statement that I am blessed - I am blessed because I had such good times with my father-in-law and I know he loved me and he treated me not like a son-in-law but like a son. I love you Dad. I am also blessed because I know that I will see again a good Italian man, wearing a guayabera shirt, smoking a good cigar, listening to Johnny Cash and cracking jokes - it may not be my father-in-law, but his legacy lives on in my son David; which in itself I think says a lot about the man. God bless.

My first love passed away on Monday - my father, Anthony A Polo. I am posting the obituary but it doesnt say nearly enough about this kind, generous, loving and honorable man. He was a quiet, thinking man. If you didnt know him, I could never explain how incredibly funny he was, right up to the very end. He was an amazing listener; my cousin joked that when he gets to heaven, St. Peter will comment that his voice box is that of a newborn baby, but his ears seem to be 112 years old. He was so smart; he could do and fix anything. He loved to solve problems and create strategies to do things better and more efficiently. Although he didnt attend church regularly, he drove my great aunt to services every Sunday of her life. He was married to his soul mate; their love story is one for the ages, holding hands in bed for 64 years with nary a day apart. He was so incredibly loved by his family. Without fanfare due to the pandemic, I sadly say goodbye - Rest In Peace my handsome dad. I love you and will miss you every single day until we meet again.
