Anthony Read Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jun. 1 to Jun. 2, 2017.
Dr. P. Anthony (Tony) Read August 21, 1923 - May 25, 2017

It is with great sadness we announce the death of our father and grandfather on May 25, 2017 at Didsbury, Alberta at the age of 93 years. Tony leaves to mourn his three sons: Paul and Kevin of Calgary and David of Didsbury; his five daughters: Anne Tuggle of Didsbury, Jennifer Craig (Doug) of Sherwood Park, Sheila Bodner (Doug) of Edmonton, Alison Lux (Ken) of Lethbridge, and Susan Read of Didsbury; his ten grandchildren: Jill, Jordan (Chris Norden), and Matthew Tuggle; Jason and Alexandra Craig; Paul and Darren Lux, Sam and Alyson Bodner, and Jake Read; his great-grandson, Max Norden; his niece Julia Read; his cousin Margaret Kett (David); many nieces and nephews (and great-nieces and nephews) in Ireland; his sister-in-law Bridie Kitt, and many good friends. He was pre-deceased by his parents: Sidney Roland Read and Elizabeth Crowe of King's Lynn, England; his brother Peter Read (Serena) of Johannesburg, South Africa, and his beloved wife Dr. B Patricia Kitt (Pat) of Didsbury.

Tony was educated at Cambridge University and St. Bartholomew's Hospital and practiced as a general surgeon and medical doctor for many years in England and Western Canada. He served as a medical officer in Europe during WWII, with the British Army. (Captain). Everyone who loved Tony knew he had a great zest for life and all living things - people, animals and plants. He was well known and respected for his compassionate and kind nature.

A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Stephen's Catholic Church, Olds, Alberta at 11:00 am, on June 3, 2017, with Father Adam Daniluk, Celebrant. Memorial tributes in Tony's honour may be made directly to the Alberta S.P.C.A. Heartland Funeral Services entrusted with the arrangements. The Family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to all his friends and staff at the Didsbury Medical Centre and the Foothills Hospital for all the care and support over the last month.
