Gloria A. Wilson

Gloria passed away peacefully on July 28, 2022 with the comfort of her family close by. She was four months shy of her 93rd birthday and was the wife of the late Harold C. Wilson.

Gloria was the eldest daughter of Carl and Phyllis (Francis) Johnson, and was predeceased by three brothers and three sisters. The five sisters were affectionately known as the "Johnson Girls."

Gloria is survived by her children Barbara (Paul) Leithner and Brian (Suzanne) Wilson; three grandchildren Karl (Jenna) Bertelmann, Alexandria and Elisha Wilson; two great grands Olivia Jane and Cole J. Bertelmann; her sister Ann Johnson Rochette; cousin Pat Francis; several nieces and nephews.

Gloria's grandchildren were always welcome at her home on Page Street where they all enjoyed "pool" time and backyard barbeques. She was an avid gardener, enjoyed crafts and BINGO.

Before her retirement, Gloria was a department manager at McQuade's Clothing Store in downtown Manchester where she got to work alongside her good friend Rosemarie B. Oehlmann. The family benefitted from advance notice of merchandise in McQuade's famous bargain basement, including the procurement of a wedding dress for her niece. She had an eye for high quality clothing and introduced her family to brands not found at other retail stores.

Later she used her retail talents working with young scouts cashing in their "cookie credits" and was bestowed an honorary Girl Scout upon her retirement. A title she frequently mentioned.

Gloria and Harold enjoyed four years in Georgia, traveling often to NH to visit family before returning to reside at Villa Crest. They were the original incorporators of "Taco Thursday" which is still a weekly tradition enjoyed by her extended family.

There are no services and interment at the Boscawen Cemetery will be at a later date. No words can express our thanks to the Villa Crest staff for their compassion and care. Sometimes it does take a village and Suzanne Wilson and Debra Healy were always available to comfort and reassure Gloria in her times of need.
