Professor Strawn was the epitome of a community college faculty member. He had broad expertise, was committed to his students, engaged in the work of the institution, and kind and generous in the process. He was a man of strong integrity. He will be missed and remembered through an incredible legacy at HCC. All sympathies to the Strawn family.

My sympathies to Tony’s family. Tony helped me in my role as an adjunct professor at Henderson Community College, beginning in the 1990’s and up until his retirement. He mentored me and allowed me to do things that helped me grow as an instructor. I share in your loss.

I had the honor of not only working with Tony at HCC for a few years, but he was also my advisor and helped me get my associate's degree as an adult learner. He was a vital part of my making the decision to continue my education as a clinical mental health counselor. He always helped me in any way that he was always available with kindness and a smile. I remember one particular time that I had signed up for a history class and quickly realized it was not for me. I was upset, and embarrassed to call him because I was crying and he comforted me and told me, "Don't cry, we are going to get this fixed and find you another class, don't worry about a thing." That particular interaction I will never forget. I was feeling like a failure at the moment and he assured me everything would be okay and it was. I will never forget him and he will be greatly missed.

I arrived at HCC, fresh from college at the age of 23, which must have made Tony 25 or 26. But he had this wealth of knowledge that made me think he knew it all. And I learned through the years, he did, at least all that mattered. He was unmatched in gaining input, reaching consensus and fostering respect in the process. He greatly influenced my time at HCC. It is impossible to know how many lives he made better. To Margaret, Todd, Emily and family there are not words for the depth of your loss. I pray for your comfort and I know you are very proud of that husband, father, and overall admirable man.

There is hardly a day that I don't think about Tony. He was such an important person in my life. Every milestone I ever reach, I always think "I need to email my HCC crew," meaning Tony, Dave, Bill. Because whatever I achieve, it really started there. He gave me so much, was kind but also tough and demanding. I really loved him, and was changed by him. I hear his voice and wisdom, his encouragement and humor, so often. Truly just one of those people who can impact the lives of many. A legend for me. I was one of the many lucky people who got to work with him, and I'm so grateful for that.

Margret and family, I wanted to express my sympathy to you. Tony was a good man! And although we did not stay in touch he was one that I thought of often especially during the basketball and football seasons at Murray. He followed me through the cheerleading. Please know that we will be praying for you and your family during this time. Take Care and God Bless, Ed & Sheila Rudolph

I am so sorry to hear of Tony’s passing. He was my advisor in the early 80s while I was co-editor of the college newspaper. I was a non-traditional student (age 30 and mother of four). He was very encouraging and supportive of my investigative reporting. Although I did not make a career of journalism, the education and experience I gained at HCC helped me in so many ways throughout my life. I am thankful to have learned from and worked with Tony.
My deepest sympathy to The Strawn Family.

Strawn and Fowler and I were connected all thru high school, you saw one of us probably saw the other two. We had so much fun driving around in his Plymouth or the old 59 dodge truck. We were roomies our first year at MurryState! One of the best friend a guy could have! Love you Tony! Will see you again. Prayers to family

We've had the privilege of being neighbors with Tony and Margaret for over 40 years and the good memories are plentiful as our neighborhood has always been like a big family. Tony could light up a room and always had funny stories to share. He had a wonderful sense of humor but would also speak his mind on occasion. Our sons are only a month apart and went to school together so there were many activities we shared at Holy Name. Tony was always doing for others and for many years took care of neighbors in need. Our last breakfast together after mass Tony paid for everyone's meal. That's just who he was....always gracious and doing for others. We will miss him terribly but are so thankful for all the great times we've shared. My heart aches for sweet Margaret as I fear this will be very difficult for her as their relationship was one of a kind. We will keep her close. Love Bert
