Anthony Wardle Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 17, 2024.
Anthony "Ant" Wardle passed away Friday, July 26. He was 42 years old.

Anthony was born in Stockport, England, where he developed a love for soccer, particularly Manchester United Football Club, that would last all his life – a love he would pass on to the next generation by coaching youth soccer. Anthony could effortlessly recite statistics and facts about English Premier League teams. His passion for sports grew after moving to the United States. Although his favorite baseball team was the Atlanta Braves, he enjoyed watching any game and adopted a mission to visit baseball stadiums around the country.

Anthony's other passions included craft beer, and he worked at numerous breweries around the Lehigh Valley, finding success in the industry thanks to his innate skill of connecting with people. He went on to become a nationally ranked accredited beer judge. He was known for browsing stores for hard-to-find brews, which he would buy in bulk to distribute to friends, curating six-packs to fit their unique tastes. Another of his passions was movies of all kinds, from comedies including Beverly Hills Cop and The Naked Gun to James Bond films.

Anthony made scores of friends during more than 20 years of living in the Lehigh Valley. He was a naturally charismatic and gregarious man who made friends easily and loved spending time with them, whether grabbing a meal, traveling to new places or celebrating "Manuary." As an ordained minister, he presided over marriage ceremonies, earning the nickname "The Rev." His friends remember him as a "kind-hearted spirit," "relentlessly warm, energetic, and fun" and a man whose "big heart and big smile were never taken for granted."

Anthony is survived by his father, Peter; mother, Amy; sister, Suzanne (Matthew Rupp); grandmother, Judy Revoir; and numerous uncles, aunts and cousins around the world.

A private celebration of Anthony's life will be held in Allentown in October. To honor Anthony, the family requests gifts to St. Luke's Hospice House to thank them for their care and compassion.

Amy and Peter. Our hearts ache. We met Anthony 25 years or more ago at one of your warm and inviting Easter gatherings. We remember vividly Anthony´s welcoming and inclusive way. And...that smile. May there be some comfort in the many joyful memories you have of Anthony. Kelly and Ray Ingram

My condolences to Anthony´s Family. I was very saddened to hear about Anthony´s passing. I´ve known Anthony since the early 2000´s. A fond memory I share with Anthony is when we went on a special trip to Seattle Washington and Vancouver, Canada and eventually driving to Montana. This was October, 2005 and shared this special moment together, and even spent the night at my sister´s house prior to the trip with Anthony and our friend Dave and went out to celebrate with her and my brother in law near Philadelphia - there was so much laughter. This was such a special trip. There are so many other memories from "Manuary" and gatherings with Anthony and remember when he brought a whole bag of "Primo" hoagie loaves to Manuary for all the guys to share , as well as him being the Master of Ceremonies at a human foosball game - his commentary will always be remembered. I will forever remember these memories with him and will always be shared with friends - such happy times. Rest in Peace Anthony.... You surely will be missed and will always be remembered. Thanks for all the good times my friend. My family and I give our sincerest condolences to Anthony´s family and we share your loss at this time and are keeping you and Anthony in our prayers.

I was about eight years old when we first moved to the States. Anthony and Suzanne would visit our home. We were fortunate to be able to spend summers playing in the pool and Ant would try to teach me soccer. I was never any good, but his determination to coach never wavered. "Just kick it in a straight line", he would say. As we got older, soccer shifted to billiards and his encouragement persisted throughout.

A handful of years my senior, he always seemed so adept at everything he tried and did. I looked up to him tremendously. Now, almost thirty years later, the memories I have of us together are still very clear. I am grateful to have known him.
