PLATTSBURGH — Mr. Antoine LaFave, 89, of Moffit Road, Plattsburgh, passed peacefully Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009, at Meadowbrook Nursing Home in Plattsburgh, N.Y. He was born in Mooers Forks, N.Y., the son of Wilfred and Emma (Rabideau) LaFave, on June 24, 1920.

As a youth, Antoine joined the Civilian Conservation Corps. He later enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving in France and Germany during World War II.

After living in Massachusetts for several years, he returned to this area.

He worked at the LaSalle Powerhouse in Altona and retired from Diamond International Paper Mill in Plattsburgh.

He was a communicant of St. Mary's of the Lake in Cumberland Head and was a member of the Peru Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Antoine enjoyed hunting and fishing in his younger days, while golf became his lifelong hobby. He loved spending time visiting family and friends and his little dog Rex was his constant companion.

Antoine is survived by his wife of 65 years, Angie (Willett) LaFave of Meadowbrook Nursing Home in Plattsburgh; sister Mrs. Oveldia ("Hattie" Marie) Boulrice of Altona; sister Mrs. Francis (Irene) Carter of Plattsburgh; brother Harold LaFave and his wife Pat of Altona; sister Stella Mitchell and her husband Donald of Altona and Lakeland, Fla.; brother-in-law Daniel Willett and his wife Rena of Plattsburgh; sister-in-law Doris LaFave of Plattsburgh; and brothers-in-law Rudy Fiegel of Canada and Richard Gero of Massena.

He is predeceased by his mother and stepfather, Emma and John Johnson; his father, Wilfred LaFave; two brothers, Donald LaFave and Wilfred LaFave; six sisters, Blanche Blanche, Mrs. Rudy (Mabel) Fiegel, Mrs. Patrick (Catherine) Minogue, Mrs. Harry (Lillian) Mills, Mrs. Keith (Alice) Clark, Mrs. Charles (Hazel) Polhemus and Mrs. Richard (Mildred) Gero; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held at the Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad St., Plattsburgh, Sunday, Nov. 22, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's of the Lake in Cumberland Head at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 23, 2009. Entombment will follow at Whispering Maples Mausoleum on the Tom Miller Road in Plattsburgh, N.Y.

Members of the VFW Post 309, Peru, are asked to meet Sunday at 7 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home for services.
