WILLIAM "BILL" ROBERT GATTON, SR.
WESLACO - Bill Gatton, 87, went to be with our Lord on Thursday, February 28, 2008. He was born in Weslaco on October 30, 1920. Bill was a veteran of World War II where he received the rank of Sergeant. He was awarded the American Theater Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. He was preceded in death by his twin brother, his parents and a sister. He is survived by his loving wife, Betty; a brother, Jackie; children, Jean Woodman, Bill Gatton Jr., Cathy Ault and step-son, John Ellington. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Viewing will be held today, Sunday, March 2, 2008, from 4 to 8 p.m. with family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. at McCaleb Funeral Home in Weslaco. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 3, 2008, at 3:30 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 703 W. 3rd St. in Mercedes. Officiating the service will be Pastor Jim M. Edge of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Mercedes.
Interment will follow at Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery in Mercedes.
Serving as pallbearers will be John Drawe, Don Vogel, Ken Eilers, Kenneth Doss, Joe Winston, Jamie Gatton and Robbie Gatton. Arrangements are under the direction of McCaleb Funeral Home of Weslaco.

Dear Betty, Billy & Robbie-I loved that man! To me he will always be "Wild Bill"-so much the opposite of what he was. You and he were definitely one of the highlights of Church on Sunday morning. I am so honored to have been selected a Paul Bearer. I'm with my Mom in Austin and on to Waco tomorrow and really sorry that I can't be with you in Weslaco. Long live the memories of my amigo Wild Bill. God Bless the Bill Gatton family.
