Antti Pekka HYNNINEN

I just heard the shocking and sad news. I knew AP from my work with the CHARMM program and from the many meetings we attended together. Everyone who worked with him or knew about his work recognized the brilliance in what he did. I have often said that his combination of talents was truly rare, and that when he moved on from our corner of the scientific community to his new ventures, he would be irreplaceable. I was surprised when I read just now that he was almost 40, because he always came across to me as much younger. It was probably because of the all-out vigor and energy with which he went about things. To his parents: I cannot imagine what you are going through, but thank you for giving us someone who contributed so much and helped to make the world a better place, even in the short time that he was here. To your family, and to Tram's family as well, my deepest condolences.

Antti-Pekka was my student at HUT where he finished his M.Sc. thesis and worked in my group until he left for his Ph.D. studies in the Netherlands. He was the nicest person whom everybody in the group liked. I met AP later a few times when he visited Finland. I also followed his career and I was very happy about his success. I am utterly shocked by what happened and I wish to extend my deepest condolences to his family and friends. We miss you AP.

Dear Antti, I'm incredibly sad to hear this. Your talk at the CHARMM workshop was incredibly inspirational, and I found you a role model in the field of MD simulations. My sincerest condolences to you and your loved ones.

Antti-Pekka oli lapsuuden rakas kaveri ja meillä myös päivähoidossa. Äiti muistaa Antti-Pekan suloisena kiipeilijänä jo aivan pienenä. Miksiköhän lapsuudesta muistaakin aina kesän? Jostain syystä muistan erityisesti kuumia kesäpäiviä Hynnisen etupihan kiveyksellä kun leikittiin milloin mitäkin, retkiä Rokualle ja myöhemmin Antti-Pekan skeittaamassa pihassa lippis väärinpäin ja pitkät hiukset heiluen. Muistan, että Antti-Pekka oli jo pienenä määrätietoinen, säästi viikkorahoista itselleen tärkeitä asioita ja opetteli skeittitemppuja iltakaudet. Vaikka vähän näinkin Antti-Pekkaa nuoruuden jälkeen, uskon että tuolla määrätietoisuudella Antti-Pekka paljon rakensi elämäänsä sellaiseksi kuin se oli: teki, koki ja eli. Tramin ja Antti-Pekan matka päättyi liian aikaisin, mutta muistot elävät.

I had the pleasure and honor of working with Antti-Pekka through both Oak Ridge and Nvidia. He was intelligent, hard-working, and friendly. His contributions to our software have made thousands of scientists around the world more productive. This is a great legacy, but only a fraction of what he and Tram would have accomplished. They will be sorely missed, and my deepest sympathy is with their family and friends.

as a fellow euro in Colorado, I had the pleasure to get to know AP as an amazingly hospitable host, and a funny and helpful friend. Later happily joined in life by Tram, they were an amazing couple that this planet has lost. It's incredibly sad and I want to send my deepest condolences to their friends and, foremost, their families, and wish them much strength. Joost Groot

I am shocked and so saddened for the families and friends of AP and Tram. My condolences. AP was originally my tenant and I told him about my town homes in Curtis Park that I just renovated. He purchased one and was loved by all his Curtis Street neighbors. I remember when he met Tram. AP was so in love. I watched this beatiful young man grow in Denver and accomplish all the things he wanted. Rest in Peace AP and Tram.

I did not know AP or his wife, but as a fellow Nvidia employee I am saddened by this news. My heart aches for his families loss, my sincere and deepest condolences go out to you

Mietin pitkän tovin kaikkia tapahtumia Apelin kanssa ja yksi on jäänyt elävästi mieleen. Apeli oli juuri saanut Yodan hahmon vanhoista Star Wars leluista. Leikimme ja paha imperiumi kukistui kerta toisensa jälkeen. Leikkien jälkeen Yoda oli kadonnut ja ei löytynyt millään. Vuoden verran voiman mahtimies oli omilla reissuillaan kunnes löytyi erään keväisen siivouksen yhteydessä. Yoda oli naamioitunut Jukkapalmuun. Yoda = viehreä/beige, palmu = vihreä/beige. Löytynyttä Yodaa tultiin sitten isommalla porukalla ihmettelemään.

Apeli, May the force be with you always

AP, we miss both of you so much. The girls will miss playing with you. Thank you for sharing a part of your life with us. Thank you for being the good husband that you are and please continue to love and care for Tram. We love you two so much.

My condolences to family and friends, I so enjoyed being their tenant and developing a friendship as we worked together to solve typical home problems and planted flowers. We are so very saddened by the loss of AP. My daughter Nicole is close friends with Tram. She told me how he was so gracious to her as she and Tram studied at their home for PA school these last 3 years. AP was such a kind person. Please know we are praying for your family.
