He received an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Mortuary Administration, Bethol Institute. Mr. Fouche graduated from Pasadena High School in California and was the featured soloist for the commencement exercise held at the Rose Bowl. He was a graduate of The University of California, Santa Barbara and California College of Embalming. He managed and was lead singer with the Dixie Jubilee Quartet. They toured the west and appeared in several movies including, "Green Pastures" and "Cabin in the Sky". Mr. Fouche began his career in the Mortuary Business with Angelus Funeral Home in Los Angeles. When established in 1915 by Hudson and Butler, Hudson's was the second oldest Black funeral home in California. Now in 2001, Fouche's Hudson Funeral Home is the oldest. Mr. Fouche leaves to cherish his memory; his loving and devoted wife, Aloysia Rochon Fouche; Daughter, Lyla Wright (husband Ben); Mother-in-law, Gladys Rochon; Nephews, Alton Ballard (wife, Vernel); Clovis Fouche, Jr., David White and Craig White; Nieces, Yolonde Ballard and Julie Gordon White; Goddaughter, Delores Richards; Grandchildren, Teri Brown, Tony Brown and Trent Brown; Great Grandchildren, Ted Brown, Toni Parker, Patrick brown, Tanner Brown, Trevor Brown, Scott White, Georgia White and Blake White. I am so proud to call you my Uncle...Love your Lil Buddy Craig...

I have been away from the Bay ARea for many years now,and was stunned to learn of my Godfather's passing.I will always remember him as a kind man with a big heart and with an even bigger bass voice. I remember with joy the good stories my father used to tell about their adventures together. Those were the "godd ole days"!

Rest in Peace.

"To love some one more dearly every day, To help a wandering soul to find their way, To ponder o'er a noble thought and pray, And smile when evening falls, And smile when evening falls, This is my Task". I remember Mr. Fouche singing this wonderful song at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church (now McGee Ave. Baptist Church) in the middle forties. Years later when I became an employee of his funeral home, he honored me with the pleasure in my accompanying him as he sang this song. He had a beautiful soft melodious voice. He enjoyed music and would hum and sing the various songs I played as I practiced in the music room. My heartfelt love for you and your family at this time of grief. "Poppa" I came to say meant a lot to all of us who work and learned from him in the years he gave to us. May God give you continue grace and blessing, may you have peace and happiness in your fond memories of this great man who served us all with love and kindness.

Thank you "Poppa Fouche" for opening a different door of life and allowing me as a young lady to work in your establishment from 8th and Myrtle, until moving to your new building on Telegraph Ave. You shared your knowledge of music and I enjoyed listening to you softly sing your favorite songs as you listen to my organ music. I'm glad Aunt Roberta encouraged and you allowed my talent to be used in the service that became a beautiful experience throughout my growing years. You served my family through five generations. Thank you Mrs. Fouche for making "Poppa" extend his years by resting after many years of hard labor for us. He will be missed by all. His professional style and grace in the way he served will be truly remembered. A beautiful person that stays in our memory. Sail on "Poppa Fouche"
