To the Stalker family, I am sorry Archie left us. I got to know him well after his retirement. I was previleged to go to the field with him in search of erratics and glacial stratigraphy in southeastern Alberta. I will miss his hand written letters and the PS saying "you do not have to answer this". I will remember his smile and sense of humor.

It is with deep regret that we hear of Archie's passing. We remember all the happy times we spent with Archie and Marion.

To the Stalker family, it was with great sadness that I heard of the passing of Uncle Archie. He was always so kind and had that great sense of humour, and my brother and I were always amazed by the amount of pens and pencils that one person could keep securely in a shirt pocket.
He will be missed but not forgotten.

Rudy and Carmel Klassen were deeply saddened when we heard Archie had passed away. Archie and Marion were special friend to us. Archie was a survivor. The way he dealt with his illness, Marion's death and managed to carry on in his own home in the years that followed. We were delighted a few year ago when invited to watch him in one of his dancing lessons. The elegant movements Archie and his instructor executed were something to see. We won't forget his impressive poetic annual christmas greetings! We will miss him!

Archie was a friend, colleague, and mentor of mine for over 40 years. His field trips stirred spirited discussions and debate. If things got too serious, Archie's great sense of humour would commonly lighten things up. I have to relate one discussion on a field trip to southeastern Alberta I suppose over thirty years ago. Someone questioned what Archie had published. The person said "but you published this, are you changing your mind?" After a long pause Archie said " I don't remember that but then I don't read my own publications."
Many of my graduate students learned, and greatly benefited by knowing Archie. He was always keenly interested in their projects and would help in anyway he could. We always welcomed him at the University of Alberta.
I will miss him a great deal. He was one of the greats and a real friend.

Archie, Your Dad - his physicality may no longer be with us. However, the worth of a person can be measured by the "foot print" she/he leaves behind. Archie's foot print was large indeed. I have been fortunate to have been able to be out in the field with Archie over many years. I learned a lot about viewing the landscape. I am still guided by this. My Deepest Sympathies. Johan F. Deepest sympathies to the Stalker Family. Surficial geologists should have an idol, and Archie was mine. I had the pleasure of talking with him recently and will cherish that conversation.

My sincere condolences to the Stalker family as they commit Archie's long and affectionate life to the realms of sweet memory. Archie and Marion and their 4 children were wonderful guests as they visited Alberta for work. Many of us looked forward to their annual return, and the pleasant hours along the outcrops of southern Alberta and Saskatchewan. The glacial history of western Canada became a significant player in climate change studies, thanks to Archie's many years of mapping and meticulous study of the strata exposed along the river valleys. We will often return to his maps and reports, and have the wonderful memories of his summer fieldwork to spur us on. His hallmark was to treat everyone with respect and kindness, and to visit and write on a regular basis. What a great role model he was for all who knew him. My love to the family!

My thoughts are with you all at this time. Pat and Mary and Jane, I am thinking of you and sending you lots of love from across the country. I have wonderful memories of Archie and thoroughly enjoyed the chats we had. He was a lovely and dear man...a gentle soul who touched many people's lives - mine included. He will be missed very much, I know, and yet I have no doubt he will continue to live on in our lives.
I will especially miss his voice :(
Take care and much love,
Maryanne

Archie Stalker was a great mentor to me in my PhD work in southern Alberta during the 1970s. He was a giant in the understanding of the surficial geology of Alberta. He left a huge legacy of maps, studies and students. My sincerest condolences to his family. His was a life well lived and one to be celebrated.

We were saddened to hear of Mac's passing. We were privileged to enjoy a visit with him during our last visit to Ottawa when he so graciously toured us around the highlights of the city. Our daughter, Kirsten, was amazed at his knowledge of the sites we visited.
We are thankful that we had this opportunity to spend time with him. It is shame that time, committments and distance conspired against maintaining closer contact with Mac and his family.
Alex has many fond memories of Mac, Marion and family's visits to the farm in Dutton when growing up.
Our heartfelt sympathy is extended to Jane, Margaret, David and Mary. May you always know that our doors are open if you are ever in our neighbourhood. We would love to renew old friendships.

Archie's Drumheller and Red Deer memoirs are an inspiration. I have a wonderful memory of walking with him to the Kipp Section in southern Alberta. Although we had some different views, he was courteous and kind and quietly amused at our shared passion for glacial landscapes. He made me feel good!

Your Father was an amazingly kind, thoughtful, and generous person. His poetry, and his kindness to me have permanently touched my heart. Life can sometimes seem difficult, but Archie's graciousness always seemed to make a gray day, bright and lite.
I will miss him.
Thank you Archie, for the pleasure of getting to know you. You were a light in my life.
You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.
May God Bless

We have fond memories of your father. We remember the twinkle in his eye and his humility. His wit was best expressed when he was describing his pride and humility. There was a running battle between Archie and Rod as to who was more humble.
We enjoyed all our visits with your father in Ottawa, Lethbridge and Logan Lake.
I know that your father was very proud of all four of you and your families. We hope all your memories will help as time goes on.
