Ardene Danella Getzel peacefully passed into the arms of her Lord and Savior on Monday, May 12, 2025, at the age of 92. Born October 23, 1932 in Milwaukee, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 39 years, Walter W. Getzel, and by her parents Armin Steckler, M.D., and Martha Steckler. Ardene is survived by her son, Walter A. (Susan) Getzel, her daughters Karen Getzel, Krista Getzel, and Karla Getzel; by her grandchildren Janet (Zachary) Pawlowski, Joseph (Emily) Getzel, and Azure (Michael) Zelinski; and by her great-grandchildren Alexander Pawlowski, and Gabriel, Oliver, and Sullivan Getzel. Ardene is further survived by her brothers Armin (Mary) Steckler, and Thomas (Lil) Steckler; by her sisters Nancy Schwab, and Roberta (Thomas) Janke; and by her nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Ardene majored in biology at Ripon College, participated in choir and Ver Adest, and was graduated in 1954 with a Bachelor of Science degree. She loved rose gardening and vegetable gardening, bicycling and long walks. She traveled the world extensively in the Americas, Europe, Asia, Africa, and Antarctica, returning with mementos and artwork related to her travels.

Ardene, along with her husband and daughters, was active in the Bernese Mountain Dog Club - Southeastern Wisconsin, raising and showing Bernese Mountain Dog champions. Ardene also volunteered at Elmbrook Memorial Hospital and was involved with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra League.

A celebration of Ardene's life will be at Wisconsin Memorial Park, Brookfield, on May 30, 2025, with visitation beginning at 9 AM and a memorial service at 10 AM in the Chapel of the Chimes within the main building. The family suggests memorials may be provided to the Bernese Mountain Dog Charitable Foundation - Rescue (https://www.bmdcf.org/fundraising ), or to The Lutheran Home Foundation in Wauwatosa (https://www.thelutheranhome.org/)
