Dear Leigh and family, I didn't have the pleasure of meeting your Mom, but she sounds like she was a very loving, positive, and ambitious woman who left an amazing influence on so many. My sincere sympathies to each of you.

To Arlene's family,
I have seen the very nice messages left by others and would like to add one of my own. You know, of course, that Arlene was a source of inspiration and strength for a lot of people, and that was certainly true for our side of the family. I will take the liberty here of speaking for your Aunt Rita (she would not mind), who was one of Arlene's biggest fans. Simply put, Arlene was a tremendous source of delight and pride for "Great Rita" (as my kids called her), and that extended to all of us. Arlene touched my life as well and I am grateful to have witnessed her example of fairness and grace.

I am shocked and saddened to read of Arlene's passing. My sister, Jo-Ann, and I were speaking of her only this past weekend and I said I would give her a call... Obviously, Leigh, Wendell, Karen, we have been out of touch much too long. I am so sorry and I share your grief.

I am sorry to learn that Arlene, a person who was always interested in the community and in seniors issues, will no longer be at any meetings I attended. It was a pleasure knowing and working with her. Best wishes to all of her family, who I am sure, will find difficulty filling the vacuum left by her absence.

Arlene was a wonderful person. In her volunteering with Alberta Council on Aging and with Edmonton Seniors Coordinating Council she gave guidance, called for justice, supported others in their work and shared of herself. She was a person of vision who spoke the truth when it needed to be heard. She was person of passion who saw the future and then worked hard with us to make it happen. We have all been blessed by her gifts.
