To Anne and family, this is Rachel Gonzales singer in Honolulu. I used to sing with Betty Loo Taylor and even sang at Rossini's one year. I had the best time ever and never forgot your family and Arni. I hope this note finds everyone in good health and I only have good memories of Arni, and Ann. Take care and God Bless! Rachel

My condolences to the May family. I have many memories of Arni, but one that sticks out in my mind was at one of his Saturday afternoon sessions. Many years ago, I wound up playing guitar and singing by myself in the first set - bandmates were late as I recall. After a tune or three, Arni came up to the stage sat behind the drums and said something to the effect of, looks like you could use some help, I'll play until the band shows up. That was Arni - ready to do what he could to support the musicians and his club. He will be missed.

Remember me and all my good...

Forgive my weakness & times misunderstood...

I made you cry, I made you laugh...

I paved the way for you to walk your path...

Though you no longer see me, I am always here...

So still talk to me and share your fears...

I'm here to guide you in all you do, and if you look within, you'll find your truth...

Please take me with you when you're having fun...

When you walk in the rain, or you feel the sun...

I'll be there to laugh and share your love...

And I'll carry you when the times get tough...

You can always see me in your dreams,

So visit me, and come often please!

Remember me in all you do...and my love for you will see you through..,

...in memory of my dear departed father in law, Arni May
written bye my amazing wife Shannon love you honey.

I met Arni when I first started racquetball about 27 years ago and played in tournaments at the Denman Club. He was always so welcoming and I felt he looked out for me and I really appreciated that kindness. Annie and family - I am very sorry for your loss. He was a special man.

December 18, 2011

Arni, Anne, Mark, Steve and Shane., we have known you and your family for over 30 years from Racquetball and all the great tournaments he helped to organize. I had the privilege to meet the Mays at the JCC in the early eighties and for years have really enjoyed their comaraderie. Arni would always ask how my family was doing and he would sincerely listen. For years Mark and I enjoy playing racquetball together and we have a lot of fun. Arni will surely be missed. We will be thinking of him often. Terry and Leona Chong

Dear Anne, Steve,Shane,Mark. Arni was a beautiful friendly giant with a heart of gold. When he smile he could light up the darkest of days, when he hugs you he meant business, you could feel what a loving man he was and when he spoke french with me, his choice of words were very colourful to say the least and so funny, his laughter was contagious. His energy and hard work were endless. Did he ever sleep ?? Always so busy but he never forgot his friends no matter the time and distance. He created a unique place for all music and food lover that became a home sweet home for many of us. Thank you Arni for being who you were, a wonderful friend, a great musician, a loving family man and most of all a beautiful soul.. We will never forget you. I was away to QC for 4 years. I was hoping to see you and Anne and the boys soon. I will take a rain check Arni, until we meet again. Heaven is a lucky place to have you. Shalom my friend. I would tell you to rest in Peace but knowing you , you are already playing music with Linton and company. The angels must really be singing now!!

PS:I would love to see you Anne. Love and hugs xoxo Christiane

I had the pleasure of meeting Arni and Anne at Rossini's and was fortunate to be asked to sit in with Linton Garner as well.
What great people to provide such a great venue for up and coming Jazz artists to perform in. RIP Arni...

Anne, I love you very much and only wish I would have known when the service was. But I'll always been there for you because you are a very special friend. Arni is the same place as my Dad and I hope that they are peacefull and free of pain.

My deepest condolences to all of you, Anne and the boys. You know how much Arni meant to me. From the moment we met we shared not only a passion and joy for Jazz but a deep Jewish connection that made us instant friends. Having him with me every Saturday night on Big Als Dance Party on AM 1040 for those two memorable years was pure joy. I still have the tapes. You will be missed "boych" by your dear friends, the jazz musicians you introduced to Vancouver, the Rossini regulars, your dear friends from all over the world, and most importantly you will be missed by me Arni. I know Linton has already welcomed you into his arms...you missed him so much and now you are both playing a set together and forever.

December 16, 2011

Arni and Anne's yearly visits to Honolulu would have him sitting in on drums at my gig. We became instant friends through music. He brought Betty Loo and I up to Vancouver to play at Rossini's (Kit's Beach and Old Town), sharing the bill with Ray Brown. What a joyous experience...Everyone we met loved Arni as much as we did. He was deservedly beloved by all. I will miss his visits and his calls, that deep voice so filled with aloha. God hold you close, Arni, and watch over your family and loved ones. You're a special mensch and will always live in my heart...Jimmy Borges, Waikiki

My sincere condolences to the May family. Arni was truly an amazing person and allowed many musicians to play at Rossini's. He had a profound impact on my youngest son telling stories of his days with Elvis. He will be missed by all that new him.
