Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 25, 2024.
Age 96 passed away peacefully at home in Rio Verde, AZ on November 10, 2024.

Arnie was born and raised in Minneapolis. He attended West High School and St. Thomas Academy, where he was named All-City in basketball, football, and baseball. Though he didn't play hockey in high school he skated for the Kenwood Teals in the Minneapolis park league, showcasing skills he had developed playing pick-up hockey at Lake of the Isles.

In 1946, Arnie attended Dartmouth College, where he excelled as a hockey player and was named a First-Team All-American. He played in the first-ever Frozen Four in 1948. After graduating, Arnie joined the Minneapolis Millers, coached by John Mariucci, and later skated for the Minneapolis Jerseys, a team managed by Walter Bush.

Arnie was named to the 1952 U.S. Olympic Hockey Team, where he helped lead the United States to a Silver Medal in Oslo, Norway. He continued playing professionally for a St. Paul team before retiring from hockey as a true legend of the sport.

Arnie's professional career began at The Toro Company, where he met his beloved wife, Rose. He also worked for 3M and spent 37 years at Potlatch Corporation, where he rose to the position of Vice President of Sales.

In 1995, Arnie and Rose retired to Rio Verde, Arizona where they embraced the community, enjoyed golf, and all that Rio Verde had to offer.

Arnie was preceded in death by his wife, Rose Marie; his parents, Arnold and Francis; and his sister, Mary Egan. He is survived by his children: Arnie (Shirley) Oss, Kevin (LuAnn) Oss, Barbara (Todd) Bjerken, and Sarah (Scott) Harding; his grandchildren: Matthew, Marcus, Lauren, Kelsey, Erik, Taurie, and Terra; eight great-grandchildren, with one on the way.

Funeral services will be held at St. Dominic's Catholic Mission Church in Rio Verde on Friday, December 6 at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Verde Cares (a nonprofit in-home caregiving organization), 18934 E. Avenida Del Ray, Rio Verde, Arizona, 85263.
