Although I never had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Darnley I was aware of the great contributions he made to the study of Canadian Geology and science in general. I was also gratefully aware of Dr. Darnley's supportive comments concerning one of my own proposed promotions within the research scientist group at the Geological Survey of Canada. May I offer my belated thanks for this and offer the admittedly prejudiced observation that Dr. Darnley was a person with a broad and fair-minded outlook. It was my regret never to have actually met Dr. Darnley.

Far too quickly the time has gone. We were fortunate to have Arthur and you as neighbours for twenty-one years. Joan, are thoughts are with you and family.
