Dear Mrs. Epstein and the Epstein children,

I was much saddened to hear about Dr. Epstein's passing. Art was a very good teacher, and an excellent clinician whose interests, depths of knowledge, and knack for understanding the elaborations of mental processes in the functioning of people in various degrees of health and illness helped and inspired many of those with whom he worked. I am glad to have known him and to have worked with him, and it was significant to me, too, that those of you in his family who I had the good fortune to meet seemed to be quite special and happy and individually accomplished, too. I hope that all of you do quite well and that you can find peace and happiness as time moves you further from your loss.

Sincerely,

Ralph Chester, MD

Dear Leona

Dick Dalton recently told me about Arthur's death. I'm very saddened by the loss of Art, as he was one of my favorite Tulane colleagues. I was fortunate, however, to have a nice friendship with Arthur, and many pleasant menories of our chats, during my 13 years at the medical school. My condolences to the family,
