Obituary

Arthur (Art) Erbele, 90, died in his hometown of Wishek, ND, Saturday November 6, 2004. Art was born on a farm in rural Lehr on July 6, 1914, the son of Andrew Erbele Jr. and Martha (Reich) Erbele. During the depression years he worked in the CCC in Washington and California. Art married Viola Mueller on October 19, 1941 in Lehr, ND. He entered the Army in 1942. They made their homes in Fort Sill, OK; Brownwood, TX and Dothan, AL. Art landed on Omaha Beach with the invasion troops. He fought across France and Germany and was in Austria at the end of WWII. He also served in Korea during the Korean War Conflict. Art made his career in service with both the North Dakota Army National Guard and the ND Army Reserve Unit. Art and Viola made their home in Grand Forks, ND and raised three children -Tim (Shari) Erbele, Indianapolis, IN; Julia (John) Betcher, Minneapolis, MN; and Lois (Jeff) Manske, Grand Forks, ND. They moved to Wishek, ND in 2000 and, following the death of his wife April 18, 2002, he has continued to reside in Wishek. Art was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was an avid outdoorsman and UND sports enthusiast. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. Art was a warm and outgoing person with a great sense of humor and a zest for life. He made friends wherever he traveled. Art is survived by his children, grandchildren, (Kristen Grider, Denise Erbele-Loubieres, Sara Doshi, Mark Erbele, Hannah Manske and Andy Manske), great-grandchildren, (Leo Loubieres, Adele Loubieres, Gus Grider); 2 sisters, Mrs. Mildred Kautz, Wishek, ND, Delores (Russell) Fiechtner, Lehr, ND, and 2 brothers Elmer (Emilie) Erbele, Harvey (Darlene) Erbele, all of Lehr, ND. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife in 2002 and 2 brothers, Leo and Calvin. Memorial Service will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, November 10, 2004 in the United Methodist Church in Wishek, ND with Rev. Marty Toepke-Floyd, pastor officiating. Memorials can be made to the Ducks Unlimited. Arrangements are by the Haut Funeral Homes in Wishek, ND.
