Arthur "Artie" Edward Habich

August 19, 1951 - March 16, 2025

Arthur "Artie" Edward Habich, 73, of Dallas, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at home on March 16, 2025. He was born on August 19, 1951, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to the late John Joseph Habich and Edith Goodman Habich.

Artie worked with General Motors for over 35 years. He was an active United Auto Workers Local 933 member in Indianapolis, IN., and UAW Local 2166 in Shreveport, LA. His career took him and his best friend and sweetheart, Beth, and family across Indiana, Wisconsin, Louisiana, and Texas. But his real work-the work that mattered most-was fixing and building things and providing for the people he loved. Over the years, he built custom decks, trellises, arbors, and raised garden beds-not just to be practical but to make Beth's gardens beautiful. He helped turn their house into an oasis no matter where they lived.

Artie was quiet, but he never went unnoticed. He had a sharp wit and a dry sense of humor. He loved to pick fun, always knowing just how to get a laugh. He didn't say much, but when he did, it was either helpful something or so unexpectedly funny that you couldn't help but laugh. He showed his love in what he built and the care he provided.

He adored his grandkids, and they loved him right back. The last deck Artie built was for his grandson Henry, and they played on it every chance they got-digging in the sandbox, building volcanoes, and making memories that will last forever. The way his grandchildren lit up when he walked into the room said it all-he was fun, he was theirs, and they knew just how much he loved them.

Artie loved nature and the quiet things in life. He paid attention to the birds at the feeder, how the wind moved through the trees, and the seasons' shift. He also loved exploring his surroundings with his binoculars, observing the little moments that most people overlooked.

He was a devoted husband, a loving dad, and a proud grandpa. He spent years coaching his children's sports teams and was an active member of Saint Christopher's Church in Indiana. Artie is deeply missed.

Artie is survived by his wife of 48 years and best friend, Beth Kolf Habich of Dallas, NC; his children, Meggie Meyer (Alex) of Signal Mountain, TN, Katie Cahalane (John) of Whitehouse, TX, Casey Habich (Maegan) of Dallas, NC, and Bonny Habich of Nashville, TN; his sister, Joyce Chasteen (Jerry) of Clayton, IN; his brother, Robert "Bob" Habich (Jean) of Linton, IN; his grandchildren, Ellie Meyer, Aidan Meyer, Reese Meyer, Madison Cahalane, Ian Cahalane, Kennedy Cahalane, Henry Habich, Benji Habich, and Evy Habich; niece, Jennifer Murrian (John); and nephew, John Chasteen (Holly).

A memorial service will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, April 12, 2025 at First United Methodist Church of Gastonia. The family will receive friends following the service.
