Arthur Kroeger

He was a family friend of my father in the 30s and forties.. His "Intellect and Energy" was a Challenger for his guiding and disciplining mother at a very early stage and but he later "Filled" everyone's expectations with his academic accomplishments, his contribution of a great career with Public Service Gov't of Canada and my other sectors of our country... His is one of the most interesting Obits one will read...

Our Great Uncle Art was an inspiration to us all, a wonderful man and probably one of the most interesting people we've ever had the honour of knowing. We cherish the memories we have of you Uncle Art, you will stay in our hearts forever.

We have lost a great man. He treated everyone with respect, and those who came in contact with him came away with a sense of astonishment at how he would always rise above our great expectations. What a gift he was . . what an inspiration.

I had the pleasure of knowing Uncle Art through my step father George Kroeger, Art's older brother. I admired Art greatly as he was a very kind and gentle man. I admired his curiosity; he had a genuine interest in people and was always ready to roll up his sleeves for some new project; he did make very good use of his life . Art did not waste a moment and he left the world a better place . He was a great example to all of us, of what is possible in each of us. I am very proud to have known him.

I had the pleasure of working for Mr. Kroeger at Transport Canada and also went to school with Chantal at De La Salle. I am sorry for your loss and extend my deepest sympathies to all the family. He will be missed by all. Diane Joanette Denis

I would like to extend my deepest sympathy to the Kroeger Family. I had the privilege of working in the Minister of Transport's office while Mr. Kroeger served as Deputy Minister and I would like to say that he was a great leader and served his government with pride and wisdom.

My condolences to Mr. Kroeger's family. He was a fine gentleman and will be missed at the Rideau Club Round table weekly meetings.

Art Kroeger has been recognized nationally and internationally as an outstanding Canadian. He shared his gifts of leadership, dedication, enthusiasm, and integrity both personally and professionally.
My parents have had an ongoing friendship with him since Art was a teenager in Consort, AB. My father Alex Deleff taught him at the local school. My parents greatly respected him to the level of trusting him with my future: he is my godfather, my Uncle Art.
We will always remember him as a true gentleman and a great man. My deep condolences to his loved ones.

I am grateful for the wonderful chat we had at my grandfathers 80th Birthday celebration.

My heart is heavy with the loss of two magnificent people - Arthur Kroeger, nation builder, and Kate and Alix's dad, the Arthur who made us pancakes and deployed wieners at Five Lakes. What a pleasure and privilege to know and love him.

As an M.A. student at Carleton University in 1997, Arthur gave a guest lecture at our ethics class. I still vividly remember what he said during that 90 minute session. It was the first of many unforgetable conversations I was privileged to have with him over the course of my studies and beyond. He was an incredibly warm, generous and principled man and he represented the very best of what it means to be part of Canada's public service. I will miss him but will never forget him.

I did not know Mr Kroeger, but I worked with Chantal and Paul in Lima, Peru for CIDA. My heart and prayers are with the family.

I had the honour and great privilege to serve on the Board of Governors at Carleton University when Arthur was Chancellor. He was delightfully amused by his Italian title for chancellor: Rettore Magnifico. He was indeed "magnifico".

I had business dealings with Arthur from about 1981, as the reform of the Crow Rate for grain transport heated up. A creative professional with lots of good humour who inspired a fine team around him. Later, we remained in touch before, during and after his time as Chancellor of Carleton and while he was writing his books. Kroeger College is a fine testament to Arhtur's beliefs and principles. He was more than primus inter pares and will be widely missed.

Art and I grew up together in CONSORT ALBERTA and graduated from the University in Edmonton in 1955 I have many fond memories of the good times we spent together.

Arthur was a friend for many years and we shall all miss him very much. He was justly honoured for his many accomplishments as an outstanding public servant.

Arthur and Gay were a year ahead of me at Oxford and in External when I joined in '59. I saw a lot of them early on until postings took us on separate paths.
Arthur e was not only supremely competent but also a truly good man. I extend my deepest sympathies to all his extended family.

I had the extraordinary privilege to work for Mr Kroeger when he was Deputy Minister of Employment and Immigration. Although I was far below him in the hierarchy, the nature of my work brought us into contact on many occasions. He had a presence as a Deputy, but was completely open and transparent with staff and never treated them with anything other than the greatest respect. He was a brilliant, unique public servant and a wonderful man and they do not make them like him any more.

My sincere condolences to the family and may they draw some consolation in the fact that Canada is a better place because of Arthur Kroeger.

I had the great honour and privilege of meeting Mr. Kroeger early in my career. He was a kind, generous and sincere man genuinely interested in his country's prosperity and dedicated to helping young Canadians make a contribution. I offer my deepest sympathies to his family and loved ones. His passing is a great loss for all Canadians.

Arthur Kroeger was a Canadian Treasure. It was a pleasure to see him working on behalf of his fellow public servants and for the citizens of Canada.

It was my great honour to work for Arthur Kroeger in 2001-2002 when he chaired the Independent Panel on Access Criteria for Fisheries and Oceans Canada. Regardless of whether he was meeting with a group of junior officials to organize public consultation logistics or whether he was presenting his views to a table of federal and provincial Fisheries Ministers, his comportment was the same. He was professional, direct but respectful, sensitive to his audience, and generous with his time and advice. I will miss him.

I wish to extend my deepest sympathies to Mr. Kroeger's immediate and extended family.
I was employed by Transport Canada from 1972-1994. I had the privelege and honor of working in Transport Canada especially under Mr. Kroeger who was without a doubt one of Canada's best Deputy Ministers.
It was a pleasure to work under him and to witness first hand his special talents, gifts, abilities,and attributes.
His legacy and numerous
contributions to the Canadian Public Service will continue to live on for generations to come!

I never met, or worked with a finer person. A person universally respected and admired. I feel a tremendous sense of loss, and feel privileged to having known him.
