Artie was my training Sgt when I went to the 20 Pct.as a rookie in 1960. We ran into each other again at the 106 SH and he was kind enough to offer me a job in TPF. I will never forget his laugh and big smile. He was one in a million. A real mensch.

Artie's positive attitude was infectious. His understanding of the human equation, balanced with intellect, but... mostly his heart will be missed. He was admired by many.

My first Desk Officer when I went to the 75 as a Police Trainee. A great guy who you had to learn from. He was a mentor who treated me like a friend or even family over the next 30 years. I retired 30 years later and he was still a mentor and a friend who helped with the job interviews and advice for a new career. He will not be forgotten. God Bless!

I first met Chief Arthur McNevin when he was a Captain and I was assigned to the Auto Crime Unit. Some years later, as I was promoted to Lt., he selected me to be the Operations Coordinator of TPF. He was a great guy and a wonderful boss, who always looked out for his men. He may be gone, but will never be forgoten by those who knew him.

Arthur was a natural boss. He didn't succumb to the pressures of the bureaucracy. His true claim to fame was his roll as director of Operation Pressure Point, NYPD's largest grug forcement initiative. It transformed the Lower East Side into a very habitable community. This operation brought Artie and I together, and thus began, a true and rewarding friendship.

As a struggling graduate student, my father-in-law, Arthur McNevin loaned us his car for what turned out to be a three year loan. He never asked for it back because he knew we needed it. When going out to dinner seemed beyond our means, he treated us. He always seemed to know when to step in and quietly help. He showed up for the birth of our twins, and seemed so proud. He was accomplished at work, but his heart was never far from his family. He helped without asking. May my children learn such an important lesson.

I first met Ptl McNevin when I observed his dome light in my rear
view mirror. I was 17. No ticket. My mother and her friend spoke for me. I think it was their brogue. He was the same cop I worked for in the 20Pct.
I can see that he never changed thru the ranks.

Artie McNevin was my Squad Sergeant in TPF in 1961. He was popular, informal and understanding - but there was never any doubt he was boss. I saw him hundreds of times over the years, last time at the 2004 TPF Reunion; and he was always the same warm, smiling, glad-to-see-ya guy as at the get-go. He never forgot where he came from. He was one of the best, at every level. We willl miss him.

I had the honor and pleasure of working for Chief McNevin in PBMS in the 1980's. He was a great boss, a true gentleman, and above all a cop's cop. My Prayers to Patsy and his family, he will be sorely missed by all he has touched over the years. I am blessed to have known him.

Artie McNevin belonged to that select group that we call " One of a Kind". No one can disagree with the positive reflections expressed in the guest book. So let me add one more " Artie McNevin was the kind of guy that when his name was mentioned, everyone smiled".

I wasn't just privileged to have Chief McNevin as my Commanding Officer at TPF, but also as a good neighbor and friend of my family who lived across the street while I was growing up. His two oldest children, Douglas (Little Doug) and Bonnie were my playmates on the block. So, I had the best of both worlds. A great, Commanding Officer, Neighbor and Friend. He will be dearly missed.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.

I knew Chief McNevin first as Arthur, growing up across the street from him in Howard Beach. He and my father, who died in 1971, were real buddys. I went on to the Navy and then to the Police Department at his strong urging. We lost touch from time to time, but I knew he was always there for me and that was very reassuring. I "hooked" up with him late in his carear in Manhattan South where he was of course well liked and did one heack of a job. My mother who died at age 94 this past December and had not seen Arthur in 40 years, would still ask about him. He made a great impression on everyone and as you all know was the last of a dieing breed.

Chief McNevin was one of the finest men I worked for and with in the NYPD. You always felt that he was more like a partner than your boss. A true leader.
I had the privilege of our paths crossing many times in our careers and as college students.
He was my Commanding Officer when I retired. I will always remember our talk reminiscing our 25 year association...indeed I left on a high note. Thanks Chief, rest in well deserved peace.
