SCHMOKDr. Arthur Christian (Art) December 24th, 1919 - February 20th, 2008 Passed away peacefully with his loving family surrounding him in the Palliative Care unit at St. Paul's Hospital in Vancouver. Survived by his loving wife of 53 years Agnes, three children Michael (Lonee), Robert (Maki), Wendy (Harley), five grandchildren Johnathon, Kimba, Asia, Robin, Orion, four siblings Edward, Martin, Eleanor, and Myrtle. Art was born in Neudorf, SK in the upstairs of the family farm house. He was the fourth of nine children born to Luthern Minister Edward and Mrs. Emma Schmok. After growing up in the Depression and working as a Medical Clerk in the Canadian Air Force, Art graduated from the first class of medicine at UBC in 1954. He was instrumental in the foundation of SMH and served as a Family Doctor in the community of Surrey for 36 years. Memorial Service will be held Saturday, March 1 at 2:00 p.m. at Mount Olive Luthern Church, 2350 148 St., White Rock. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to BC Lung Association.
