WEBSTER, Arthur Edwin (Art)

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Art Webster at his home in Cottonwood Village, Claresholm, at the age of 94. Art was the son of Edwin and Dorothy Webster of Stavely. He spent his childhood and school days in that small Southern Alberta town, a source of great pride throughout his life. He enlisted in the Canadian military in June 1940 and served overseas with the 8th Canadian Field Ambulance until he returned in 1946 with the rank of captain. While in England he met the love of his life - the gal in the green dress - at a tea dance near London. He and Betty were married September 20, 1944. Back in Alberta, they worked together to build a home on the ranch and raise their family. His favorite places were always "Happy Valley" and the Livingstone River. Art was proud to be self- employed his whole adult life, as a farmer/ rancher in the Porcupine Hills, and for 20 years in real estate with Toole Peet & Co. in Calgary, although he much preferred the livestock industry. His pastimes included stamp collecting, hunting, fishing, travel, riding the hills with Betty and the kids, and he always enjoyed special times with his close- knit family. He was a life member of both the Stavely Elks Lodge No. 112 and the 8th Field Ambulance Association. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, and his sister Audrey I. Hunt. He leaves behind to celebrate his life and mourn his death, his adored wife Betty; son Tony (Debbie) Webster of the Nanton area; daughter Joy (Jim Hestand) Webster of Maui; grandsons Clay (Jen) Webster and Mike (Angie) Webster; four great-grandchildren; and extended family members in Alberta, Boston and Maui. His message to all: Enjoy your lives to the fullest! We wish to thank the management, staff and residents of Cottonwood Village who provided the comfort and care that were so welcome in Art's final days. Many thanks go to Dr. Smith and the professionals at Claresholm General Hospital and clinic, and the AHS home care staff. A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, September 30, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Stavely Community Centre with Pastor Stefan Ulrich presiding.
