To all of my Uncle Arturo's family, I am so, so sorry for your loss. I am also very sorry that I couldn't be there.
Ninfa, you were without doubt your husband's soulmate. That means your souls will be eternally united which I hope offers you comfort. I can't begin to understand all that you are going through but prayers are being said for your comfort as well as the comfort of your children and grandchildren.
To my cousins and their children, your love for your father and grandfather is without question. I know each of you did everything you could, with love and care, to help your father and grandfather when he was sick. The smallest of kindnesses you gave to him, even just a good morning smile let him know just how much you loved him.
To Arturo's siblings, now it is up to you to share all of the stories you remember of your brother with all of us so that our collective memories of him will never fade. 'Fess up Dad. You've got to tell everyone how you used to get your big brother in trouble so that he would have to cut the grass by himself and you would just sit around and watch. (let's not forget the kind of jokester family we all come from).
I have so many memories of staying with your family when I was a kid. I think what I remember most was how your Dad was so quick with a joke or a punchline. He was usually picking on one of us (in a playful way of course). And even if you found yourself to be the bud of his joke, you couldn't help but laugh the hardest because he was just plain funny and quick on his feet.
I have requested that a Mass be said at my church (St. Bridget Catholic Church in Richmond, VA) for your Dad. I'll let you know when that Mass is said.
Love,
Kitsy
