My heartfelt condolences to Asad's family. Dr. Ahmed, as I knew him then, taught a molecular biology course that so inspired me, I switched from my math major to pursue biology. He was a great mentor during the summers I spent in his lab in the 1980s, learning about the world of research. I continued on the path as a research scientist, now directing a biology lab at the Institut Jacques Monod in Paris. I will always be grateful for the intellectual guidance and inspiration that Asad provided to me.

This was such sad and shocking news. Asad was an incredible teacher who inspired me to pursue molecular biology as a career. I am so saddened to hear this news, and that I did not get to say goodbye.

So sorry to hear about Asad. He taught me as an undergraduate in the Genetics Dept in the late 70's and I worked in his lab for a few years. Dr. Ahmed was a great teacher and I copy much of his style today when I teach genetics to undergraduates at the U of T. He greatly influenced me intellectually and I always will appreciate that.

I was sorry to hear of Dr. Ahmed's passing. I received my PhD from Dr. Ahmed's lab in 1983 - and now I am turning out my own PhD graduates - passing the tradition down the generations. My condolences to the family.
Sincerely

Very sad to hear that Asad has passed away. I worked for Dr. Ahmed for several years as his technician in the 80's. He taught me many things in the lab and about life. I feel I owe much of my career to him. We always kept in touch over the years and I will miss him. My condolences to the family for their loss.
