Athena Poulos Obituary

POULOS Athena (Pat) Petroutsa Poulos died peacefully, surrounded by family, on Wednesday, July 12, 2017. Pat was born on October 31, 1925, in Jacksonville, Florida, one of four children born to Gus and Maria Petroutsa. She graduated from Robert E. Lee High School and Sullins College in Bristol, Virginia. In 1946, after World War II, she became reacquainted with Teddy C. Poulos, her future husband. They married in October, 1947, and had 68 wonderful years together, until Ted died last year. They spent their married life in Jacksonville, enjoying their family and building many cherished friendships. Pat volunteered as a Pink Lady and as a Friend of the Library. She was a member of the Towhee Chapter of the Orange Park Garden Club, and was always there to lend a hand to a friend. She enjoyed many years of bridge playing with good friends, and continued until her final weeks. After Ted retired in 1988, they began to travel extensively in the United States and abroad. Between their trips, you could find them fishing at the beach, on the tennis courts, or entertaining friends. Pat was a wonderful hostess and loved opening her home and making others feel special and welcomed. While Pat was small in stature, she had an underlying strength that never wavered. She led by example and she always did the right thing. She had a deep faith and was a lifelong member of St. John the Divine Greek Orthodox Church. Pat is survived by two daughters, Cassandra Poulos and Roxanne (Tony) Attanasio, her beloved grandson, 1st Lt. Christopher Attanasio, USMC, and one sister, Melissa Theodoredis. She is also survived by nieces and nephews, Christine (Phil) Wyrick, Laura (Greg) Bacalis, Blane Petroutson, Bill (Suzanne) Petroutson, John (Ginger) Petroutson, Theodoredis, Stanley (Marsha) Theodoredis, and Roger (Fiona) Theodoredis and several cousins. Trisagion and funeral services will be held 10:00 A.M. Monday, July 17, at St. John the Divine Greek Orthodox Church, 3850 Atlantic Boulevard, with the Rev. Dr. Nicholas Louh officiating. Memorial donations may be made to St. John the Divine Greek Orthodox Church. What a great and powerful lady. She lives on in her two strong daughters.

Oh Cassie and Roxanne, I have just arrived back in town and have read about losing your Dear Mother. Two words come to mind when I think of Mrs Poulos (Pat), "gracious hostess". She is the beautiful, loving wife and mother whom we all try to emulate. I have so many fond memories of her and being in your lovely home as we grew up together. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you both, as well as the peace in knowing that she is finally with the love of her life, Ted. With much love, Sandi Nelson Beatty [email protected]
