Audrey Mezera Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Aug. 20 to Aug. 23, 2015.
Audrey Auld-Mezera

January 14,1964 - August 9, 2015

Audrey Auld-Mezera was born on January 14, 1964 and passed away at the age of 51 on August 9, 2015 in Stinson Beach, California. Audrey was born in Tasmania, Australia to parents Frederick J. Auld and Audrey Wells and spent her early years in their mountain home at Mt Wellington, Tasmania. Later in life she relocated to the United States to pursue her singing career and to share her life with her loving husband, "Mez" (Daniel) Mezera, who she married on August 29, 2003. Audrey and Mez spent many happy years living in Tennessee and California.

Audrey is survived by her adoring husband, Mez, her father Frederick J. Auld, mother Audrey Wells, loving siblings Freddy, Nukee, Warwick and Lynne, and stepfather Colin Wells and stepmother Dorothy Auld.

Audrey was surrounded by her musician friends singing, "Bound for Glory," when she made her transition. She opened her eyes, smiled lovingly at her husband Mez and passed from this earthly plane. It was a magnificent moment for all who were privileged to be present for this transformative moment.
Though she was taken from us too soon, the music and lyrics she left behind will remain with us forever. Audrey lived with optimism and delivered happiness and laughter to all with whom she came into contact. Audrey will be missed by many in the Country Music world, where she was a well-known and respected artist, as well as others in the community with whom she shared her musical talent and warmth.

Audrey's final album was "Hey Warden," with inmates from San Quentin Prison. She touched and was touched deeply by the people and the experience. Her work with prisoners is emblematic of the heartfulness with which life she lived life, wrote and sang her music.

Rest in peace our beautiful Audrey, we'll see you again on the other side.

A memorial service to celebrate Audrey's life will be held at the Stinson Beach Community Center on Sunday, September 6, 2015.

Audrey is one of the finest female singer-songwriters ever to come from Australia. Her music appeals to people who are tired of the mainstream dribble. It is heartfelt and emotional music that is her trademark. She will be missed by me. Audrey also was a great conversationalist and has a wonderful sense of humor.

I didn't even know Audrey was ill. I was in Centennial Hospital on 9/9, & then was "permitted" to leave for the San Francisco/Sonoma area on 9/12. Had no idea I was so close, and yet so very far away... I'd seen Audrey many times in Nashville, not only performing, but just hanging out w/ our pals. I purchased some clothes @ the E. Nashville yard sale, & told her she'd better stay in touch-! (Yes, I received emails...) This is so very sad, and I'm so very sorry not to know until now, Mez. I'm going to email Kerry (in Tasmania) - I know he & Audrey were friends... My thoughts and prayers are with you. xo, Susan

As a physician, I have often been intimately involved in issues of life and death more often than most. Having known Audrey for 10 years, I can honestly say that Audrey taught me more about both life and death, on a personal level, than I ever knew existed. Audrey will be with me always.

I will always be grateful that Audrey blessed my daughter, Kirsten's, wedding reception with her presence, one of her very last performances, July 18th in Tilden Park. Audrey and Mez watched my 3 daughters grow up, living across the street from us in Stinson. I hold them both near and dear to my heart.

Several years ago, I had the opportunity to see an "in the round" show in the Tampa area with 2 artists I'd longed to see for years - Eliza Gilkyson and Ellis Paul. There was this third person I'd never heard of named Audrey that rounded out the show. She won my heart, and I found out that my buddy Grant Peeples knew her well and highly recommended I approach her for being a performer at my house concert series. I talked to her that night, and we arranged a date. Prior to her show at my Florida home in 2013, I ordered one of her handcrafted necklaces and she brought it with her when she came to perform. Oh what a night that was! I own all of her albums, that wonderful necklace, and she signed my "cowboy autograph" guitar. I loved sharing her with my friends. I loved her bawdy spirited humor and Tazmanian accent. I loved her passion for reaching out to others - the inmates especially. I'm so sorry for the loss of this loving soul. Love to you, Mez and all who loved Audrey.

There are few people who when you meet, you make a connection with. Audrey and Mez were two such people. Honored to have Audrey perform in our back yard and then become friends. She touched the life's and beings of so many and that is the gift she leaves behind for us. Her physical presence may be gone, but her presence is long to,remain. Social media, you tube and downloads will keep her alive for us and for those in the future. Live on Audrey, love on!

Mez,
I loved Audrey's music from the first time I heard her sing "Tree". I became a huge fan at that moment and have been ever since. I'm honored that the two of you, along with Cora and Gypsy spent a couple nights in our home.
She was very special and she will be deeply missed. With my deepest sympathy for your loss. xox
