Audrey Jean Young, a life long resident of Springfield, NJ entered into eternal life at the age of 87 on August 31, 2010. She and her sister Lillian Young were veterans of World War II and served during the l940's. Audrey was assigned to the War Department's General Staff, the Pentagon Building and Washington D.C. During her tour of duty she acted as secretary and stenographer for Generals Mark Clark and Dwight Eisenhower, among many others. She was honorably discharged in March of l946 with the rank of Sergeant from Fort Dix, NJ with the following citations and decorations: The American Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. Audrey was employed with the Essex Wire Corporation in Newark, NJ as a supervisor. She retired from Western Electric Corporation which is now Lucent Technologies. Audrey's compassionate service and volunteer work was greatly appreciated by the many patients she visited at Overlook Hospital in Summit, NJ. She was awarded at the facility with a commemorative pin for 700 hours of community service. Audrey was a faithful member of the Springfield Emanuel United Methodist Church, she served as a creative and supportive Sunday School teacher for many years. She was a generous giver of her gifts, time and talents. An avid golfer and bowler, Audrey won many awards and medals throughout her life. Audrey is pre-deceased by her parents William H. and Marguerite Taylor Young and her sister Lillian Young. A graveside service will be held on Sunday September 19, 2010 at 1:00 PM officiated by Rev Hemesias Ares at Springfield Emanuel Methodist Church Cemetery, 40 Church Mall Springfield, NJ. Therefore, it is befitting that in lieu of flowers donations in Audrey's name may be made to Springfield Emanuel United Methodist Church, 40 Church Mall Springfield, NJ 07081. Due to the fact Audrey had no surviving relatives, her church family meant the world to her as she did us.
