In the summer of 1963, after our sophomore year at Central Catholic High School, a few of us worked a day or two bailing hay at Pat Molak's family farm (Tooth Acres) outside San Antonio. The old farmer working with us shamed us with his steady all-day effort, while we kids tended to race around and burn out quickly. During one break, when Joe was spending a lot of time on toilet, Mr. Molak commented, "Joe is gonna live a long time. He spends a lot time on the toilet. He is a regular fellow." I'm still surprised Joe passed before I did. Joe was just a good guy!

I knew Joe for 2 1/2 years at Central Catholic High School in San Antonio, Texas. My family moved to California in the middle of my junior year, and Joe kept contact with me and sent me the 1964 Central Catholic year book, with many more signatures and greeting notes from classmates that I would have never gathered on my own. It is still my prize possession from high school. Communication with Joe helped me through a rough transition.
I'm catching up with past lives in this time of the Covid, and I'm sorry to hear of Joe's passing away.

I had the privilege of playing for Joe at Washington University. I can honestly say that out of the many different coaches that I have had in my life none of them cared about me more as a person than him. Joe taught me what it meant to be a man and live by your word. I know so many other people that played under him felt the same way. Joe, you will be missed, but your actions will live on always in my heart.

So sorry to hear of Joe's passing. Our condolences to Jan and the family. Joe was a wonderful coach to Ryan and so many others. It was obvious that he loved being a coach and helping kids.

We are so saddened by this news and will always have fond memories of Joe who always wore a smile, no matter what was going on, and could turn a gloomy day into sunshine with just a few of his words. The heavens have certainly gained an angel. Prayers for all the family, and know that Joe will always be with you so long as you have memories.
