In Loving Memory of Austin James Newman

Austin James Newman, age 64, of Jim Thorpe, PA, passed away on March 23, 2025.

Austin was born on October 5, 1960, in Hopatcong, NJ to Austin Newman and Ruth Howell. He served four years aboard a Navy destroyer. After his service, Austin became a chef and worked at various restaurants in the New Jersey and Bucks County, PA area, later becoming a machinist.

A self-taught and accomplished musician, Austin excelled at bass guitar, drums, and guitar. He played in several bands over the years throughout New Jersey and Pennsylvania. He was also a devoted guitar aficionado and a lifelong car and motorcycle enthusiast. For a time, he could be seen riding around Perkasie, PA in his beloved 1966 Ford Falcon and, later, his 1969 Triumph motorcycle.

Of all the passions in Austin's life, his greatest joy and proudest accomplishment was in being a father.

Austin is survived by his son, Rutger Gundersen Newman; his sister, Molly Newman; and his nephew, John Paul Newman. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth and Austin Newman.

A memorial service to celebrate Austin's life will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at 12:00 pm at the American Legion, 610 E. Broad Street, Quakertown, PA 18951. A luncheon will follow. All who knew Austin are warmly invited to attend and share memories.

Austin's memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
