Dear Mrs. Roberts-Please accept my sympathy on the loss of Austin. I knew him only briefly, as I was coming on the ABA's Community Bankers Council. That said, I will always remember his warm welcome, and how special he made each of us feel. As I assume the chairmanship of the Council in a few months, I will attempt to pattern my tenure after that of Austin's. He was remarkable banker, an inspiring leader and a good man. You and your son will be in my thoughts and prayers. Kindest Regards-Bill Grant

Barbara and Family, Please accept our heart felt sympathy for your loss. I worked for Austin at 1st Peninsula Bank for all the years he was the CEO. One great guy who you would have thought was just another co-worker, strength of character and humility. I know he will be missed by all who knew him. Lee and Doris Ashby, Hampton, Va.

Barbara and family, Len Cowherd told me of Austin's passing. I am sorry for your loss, know that our thoughts and prayers are with you and yours.
The obit was a fine tribute to Austin. My granddaughter Sophia is a sophmore at W&M and her dad received his MBA there also.
Enjoyed seeing you at my home in Tappahannock in 2002. We hope to have a Cowherd Cousins reunion in the DC area soon, hope you will be able to attend. Frank & Carolyn

Barbara and Family:
I worked with Austin years ago when I was first introduced to banking at Commerce Bank in the 80's. If there was ever any role model to follow, it was him. He proved my Dad's theory that honesty and hard work would always get you where you were destined to go. He was my inspiration and life long mentor of what a good community banker and friend should be. His kindness will not be forgotten.
Sincerely and with sympathy,

Dear Barbara and Family,
Please know that I am holding all of you in the light. I remain saddened and heavy of heart hearing of Austin's passing. I have many fond memories of our time together at Chesapeake Academy, and even more of the fun and fellowship enjoyed playing racquetball at Oakwood Fitness Center. His high character will continue to serve as a compass for those who knew him.
In Sympathy,
John Davis, Charlottesville, Va.

Dear Barbara,
I was so saddened to learn of your loss. Years ago Austin made me a business loan that was, by any standard, very modest. Yet he treated me as though I was the bank's bigest customer. I've not forgotten.

Dear Barbara, Rob, and family,
Judy and I were deeply saddened to learn of Austin's death. In our banking profession, we are blessed with many good people, but none stood out more than Austin as a leader in our industry and as a community leader. I admired him greatly and considered it a real privilege to be his friend. Our prayer is that you are experiencing God's sustaining grace in a meaningful way at this time. Know that our thoughts are with you.

Boy, what a great time we had at W&M. Rob gave me my first loan - way back - said he "owed" me for the 'Vette. We didn't stay in touch like we should have, but I was able to keep up with his outstanding banking career. To the immediate family, my hopes and prayers go to you. To Mr.& Mrs. Roberts - thank you for Rob (and golf many years ago).

We share in your loss and are saddend beyond words at the passing of our dear friend. Austin was a truly remarkable man and it was an honor and priviledge to have known and worked with him. We last saw each other at a luncheon hosted by Rep. Rob Wittman in Washington DC about a year ago.
The world is a better place because of Austin.

To Barbara and Family:
I was truly saddened to learn of Austin's passing. My time working with him as Chairman of the ABA Community Bankers Council and the National Conference for Community Bankers was an honor and joy. The Phoenix conference was a challenge with the Secret Service shadowing our speaker, but Austin helped make my job easy with his easy going nature and humor. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

I am so sorry to hear about Austin's passing - I worked with him on the ABA National Conference for Community Bankers (he was chairman of the conference, and of the ABA Community Bankers Council that year) and found him a joy to be around - thoughtful, funny and truly concerned for others. We here at ABA who knew him are all saddened by the news. You're in my thoughts and prayers.

Barbara & family:
The news of Austin's death has saddened Barbara and me. While it has been some time since we saw you, we remember the early days in Newport News when, as "young turks," we mapped out families and careers. This obit tells the story of a great life, and his friends knew him as a great guy. You are in our thoughts and in our hearts. John & Barbara Warley
