Avis Badami Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Aug. 11 to Aug. 19, 2015.
Avis Winifred Gunderson Badami passed away, at home, surrounded by family members on August 8th, 2015. She had lived a full and vibrant life of adventures and love and responsibilities and health challenges and tragedies beyond measure. She was hoping to turn 90 years old in September.

Avis was born September 22, 1925 to Melvin and Florence Gunderson in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.

She was proceeded in death by her only child, Craig Louis Badami and later by her husband, Nicholas Dante Badami. She is survived and missed dearly by her grandson, Nicholas Edward Badami and his bride, Alyson Plant Badami, and by Nicholas' mother, Susan Balchunas Badami and Avis' only sibling, Marjorie Glicksman, and her daughter, Lisa Glicksman and Lisa's husband, Dan Auslander.

Avis met the love of her life during World War II, in Barstow, California. She and Nick were married for 56 amazing years. They lived in New York, Tennessee, New Jersey and Puerto Rico. They loved to travel the world, often with their grandson, Nicholas. They were involved in multiple charities on both coasts and in-between.

The family will hold a private celebration of life for Avis at a future date. Those who wish to contribute to her memory and good works can do so by making a donation to The Inn Betweenhttp://www.theinnbetweenslc.org, a hospice organization for the homeless, based in Salt Lake City and manned by some of the same caregivers, who helped Avis in her transition, in her own home.

The family wishes to let the Park City community know this year, the lights on her log home in Park Meadows, with the ski racers, Santa, and all the multi-colored trees, will be lit up in her memory.

Avis Was our Baby Sitter in Chetek , Wis in 1942. She struggled to help us put our little skis on and patiently taught us to use them She gave my brother ( Mac ) and myself a life long passion for winter and skiing. What a loving gift she gave us!

I was just sitting down to write a note to Avis and had to look up her address...I was shocked to see that she had passed. I have known her for all my life as my mom was one of her best childhood friends. She had a full life and sadness too. I know she was excited about Nicholas' upcoming wedding. Will truly miss her and know she is at peace now. Thoughts are with her family who she cherished.

I was lucky enough to put up her Christmas Tree with her every year since I was 6 years old. Avis was the kindest person, she loved Christmas and all her ornaments she collected from all over the world. I loved the story of her and Nick meeting and falling in love during the war. She will be greatly missed.

My sincere condolences to the Badami family, especially Nicholas and Susan.
Oddly, just last week an old friend and I were talking about the old days in Park City. One cannot have a conversation about the old days without the Badami's being fondly remembered. Avis was the cornerstone that kept things centered and balanced with exemplary graciousness. I am grateful to have known Nick, Avis and Craig all those years ago and the wonderful memories I continue to cherish.

My husband Howard and I were great friends of Avis and Nick in Lake Tahoe. We celebrated many wonderful occasions with them. I shall always remember Avis as a good friend, and a caring and loving person.
