I have fond memories of building a ceremonial teaching lodge with Joan, Mang and Anung in the rain at the Ziibiwing Center. We were all very proud of her when she showed up at the Hanta Po: All of You Out of My Way forum in her AIM jacket. May the Creator bless the Webkamigad family always.

Sending my deepest prayers and thoughts to the family. Joan knew and worked with my mom, Esther Shawboose Mays, Indian rights activist and dad, Isiah "Bob" Mays, state-appointed Minority Housing authority (Gov. Blanchard) in her many years of service in Indian country. Her dedication to Native rights, passion for equity, championship, and kindness were always the centerpiece of any conversation concerning her. Her efforts and lifetime accomplishments have resulted in the attainment of higher levels of social equity which will have a lasting impact for us all, into the future generations. Miigwech Joan, for being that light of promise and proof in the lives of so many. Your impactful, selfless living is forever etched upon our hearts and in history! With love, honor and esteem...S. Cole & family -(Isiah & Esther Mays Family)

Joan along with her son Morgan taught me a lot about the Indian culture and the many ways of her people. I was naive of the Indian ways and learned a lot from her growing up. She will be missed. We all called her mom and she was an inspiration to our young molding minds. Swift journey Momma Joan. lots of love from North Carolina.
