Barbara Barnes

Barbara Barnes passed away in her home in Monarch Beach on Thursday, October 31, 2013. She was 94 years old. Barbara was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Robert Barnes former President of Estee Lauder. She is survived by her daughter Nancy Sampson and her son John Barnes as well as six grandchildren and five great- grandchildren. The daughter of Dr. Harrison and Anna Collisi, she was born October 4, 1919 in Grand Rapids Michigan. She attended Northwestern University where she met her husband Robert Barnes. They married in 1943. After the war, she and her husband moved to California and raised their family in San Marino, Calif. In 1967, they moved to Greenwich, Conn. Upon retirement in 1993, they became residents of Monarch Beach and Indian Wells, Calif. Barbara was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She lived a very colorful life with style and grace. She was an avid traveler who loved to read and spend time with her family and friends around the country. She was also the owner of Robert's fine shoes in Palm Desert. She will always be remembered by her family and friends as a lovely, gracious and generous person who always loved to laugh. There will be a memorial celebration with family and friends at Valley Hunt Club in Pasadena, California. In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions can be made in memory of Barbara Barnes to the Doheny Eye Institute, 1450 San Pablo Street, Los Angeles, CA 90033 (Tel. 323-442-7101).
