Barbara Braidwood Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province on May 24, 2016.
Mom was born in Edmonton. After the early deaths of her mother and father (Barbara and Jim), she was adopted by her loving Aunt Jessie and Uncle Ed Blain in Hamilton. Raised in the convent school system, she relished her freedom at McMaster University and Osgoode Hall Law School where she met our Dad. They were married in Hamilton before he whisked her off to Vancouver which she passionately called home from the moment she stepped off the train. Daughter Lynne Benson and son, Tom Braidwood (Trudy) sadly say goodbye to their Mom. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Darrell and son, Jimmy, along with sister Helen McGregor and brothers, Jim and Bruce McGibbon. Remembering her feisty, generous and loving spirit are grandchildren, Kim, David (Nora), Jessica (Daryl) and Kate (Andrew) along with great grandchildren, Ella, Ben, Talulah, Hank, Emily and Isaac. Quick to debate and a generous hostess, she was active in the Vancouver Junior League, the PTA and PEO. Dad and Mom opened their hearts and home to their friends and our friends. Young and old made memories at the Braidwood's. We remember the Morris Minor, the 57 Chev, the Mustang, the cigarettes and her ability to throw back a martini with the best of them but most of all we remember the love - Mom, we say Aloha. A private family service will be held in Maple Ridge. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Vancouver Children's Hospital would be appreciated.
