Barbara´s family and friends have my deepest sympathy during this time of grief and sorrow. May the fond memories of your loved one always be cherished. Also I hope the God of All Comfort provides the comfort needed at this time. May he give you the strength to cope in the coming days, months and years.

Barbara came to me I think at the suggestion of Bob Treuhaft and I was glad to give some pro bono legal assistance. What is important however is the great and lasting contribution to humanity and social justice Barbara continued to make throughout her life. I hope the family/community will have a gathering in celebration of Barbara´s life - perhaps at Freight & Salvage and perhaps as a fund raiser for Cuba. Green Cities Fund would be honored to provide some financial help for such a celebration.

Barbara Dane represents the best of her generation. She was a neighbor of mine in Oakland CA & she was friendly and she knew so many songs. She was an activist from the git-go & remained an activist her entire life. She wrote a book with some wonderful memories in it. She knew everyone in the folk/blues/jazz/protest world. She moved back to Oakland after the death of her husband, Irwin Silber. The two of them had established their own record company and Irwin published Sing Out, a magazine for the folk and blues people and for activist song writers. She stayed busy, only recently performing with her son, a famous Cuban musician and her usual band in Marin. That was in conjunction with a documentary about her life. I had tea with her a couple of years ago and we talked about music and musicians. I hoped she would live and sing forever.
