Barbara Drury Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jun. 14 to Jun. 16, 2013.
Barbara Ann Drury

Barbara Ann Drury passed away peacefully surrounded by family on May 31, 2013 at Eisenhower Medical Center in Rancho Mirage. She was born on October 4, 1934 in The Plains, Ohio to her parents, Leslie Talbert and Isabel Turner Talbert. Barbara had three brothers and two sisters. She attended school in The Plains and graduated from The Plains High School. She called the desert area her home for 55 years. Barbara worked for approximately ten years for Market Basket in Palm Desert, but her passion was truly being a homemaker. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, needle point, puzzles, and trout fishing. Her idea of the perfect vacation was to travel with Jerry in their motor home and fish the many streams and rivers near Bishop. Barbara was also a great cook and made the best Chicken 'n' Dumplings, according to her grandchildren. She is survived by her loving partner of 35 years, Jerry Hightower, of Bermuda Dunes, Calif., her three children, daughter, Robin Barlow of Baxter Springs, Kansas, and sons, Kyle Drury, of Palm Desert, Calif., and Raymond "Butch" Drury (Terri) of Pinyon Crest, Calif., and her two brothers, Tom Talbert (Sherry) of The Plains, Ohio and Ralph Talbert (Mary) of Baltimore, Ohio. She is also survived by Jerry's three children, Dr. Tess Hightower of Studio City, Calif., Mike Hightower of Tecumseh, OK, and Cynthia Schmale (Ken) of Palm Desert, Calif. as well as eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, a brother, a grandson, and a great-grandson. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Barbara's memory to The National Kidney Foundation, website: www.kidney.org or to The Desert Cancer Foundation, website: www.desertcancerfoundation.org. A Celebration of Barbara's Life will be held on Sunday, June 30th from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Hightower home in Bermuda Dunes.
