GOBLE, Barbara Jean (nee Amey)
1924 - 2016
Passed away peacefully in hospital on Friday, December 23 at age 91 surrounded by her loving family. The eldest of seven children, Barbara was born at the Royal Vic in Montreal, Quebec in 1924 to Elmer and Ruth Amey. Barbara was a member of the RCAF (WD) from 1942-45. She married the love of her life Max Edwin Goble in 1946 and raised 5 children in Ottawa while working full time as a court stenographer at the Ottawa Court House. She was an avid knitter and sports fan with a passion for the Ottawa Senators and the Toronto Blue Jays. Also a devotee of piping and highland dancing, Barbara served on the Executive of the Ottawa Highland Dancing Association. Barbara made many wonderful friends wherever she went. Recently, she enjoyed 4 1/2 years at the Ravines and in March this year moved to the Perley Rideau Veterans Home. On her behalf, many thanks to the caring staff at the Perley. She is survived by her children, Amy (Ken Garson), Calvin (Amanda), Dee (Shelley) and Zoye (Bruce Poulin); and her 8 grandchildren, Kyle, Camden, Fea (Amy), Victoria, Patricia (Calvin), Jake (Dee), Dayna and Rylan (Zoye). A grand lady of piping, so supportive of her family. She never failed to voice her concern for my own mother whenever I saw her. Truly saddened to hear the news but a long life, very well lived. Condolences to Amy and Ken and the rest of the family.

Dear Amy and family. I was sorry to hear of the passing of your Mom. Barbara was a loyal friend to my (late) mother Jessie while she lived at the Ravines and also after her move to the Perley and Rideau Veterans' Centre. She had a strong, positive character and I enjoyed chatting with her during my visits to Ottawa.

I was so fond of Mrs. Goble, and always looked forward to seeing her at so many highland dancing events and competitions - she supported the Celtic arts in a huge way and loved everything she attended. She will truly be missed.
