Barbara Laurene Holt, 83, long-time resident of Lompoc California, passed away peacefully from COVID-related complications in her home on February 25, 2021, surrounded by her family. She is survived by her two sons, Greg and Randy, along with their families, her sister Marcia and brother-in-law Jon, and her niece and nephews.
She was known as Barb to her friends, Oma and Grandma to her grandkids, and Babs to her family. She lived a long and full life with lots of beloved friends. She moved to Southern California with her family when she was young and graduated from Eagle Rock High School. She married and had two sons that caused her as many headaches as moments of happiness. She worked for the So Cal Gas Co. for several decades and was very active in the Lompoc community supporting the arts, particularly the Mural Society, the Flower Festival, the Alpha club, the Lompoc Bridge Club (she was a nationally rated champion for duplicate bridge) and her beloved St. Mary's Church.
After she retired Barbara traveled to far-off lands like Turkey, China and Thailand. Along the way she had four beautiful grandchildren; Chloé, Emma, Tim, and Naomi whom she visited as often as possible and they were the light of her life. She was notorious for being fiscally conservative but was liberal with her generosity, so much so she was awarded Woman of the Year of Lompoc Valley for her commitment to her community. She was a woman of faith and a lover of wine and travel. She will never be forgotten.
A graveside service for immediate family and close friends will be held at Lompoc Cemetery on March 3, 2021, at 3pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in Barbara’s memory may be made to the Lompoc Mural and Public Arts Coalition, in care of 1341 Blaisdel Lane Lompoc CA 93436. A celebration of her life will be held in 2022, so everyone who loved her can celebrate her life together.

Randy and Greg, I am so sorry for your loss, your Mom was a very special lady! Barbara welcomed me into her life many years ago while working together at the Gas Company. Her vivacious presence will be sorely missed as will her special holiday cheese.

So sad to hear of Barbara’s passing. She was the long time Treasurer for the Lompoc Mural Society & board member of our 501c3 supporting group. I enjoyed working with her for many years & her friendship and support of my own art is a memory I’ll treasure. Love to all her family❤

Randy & Greg -
May God be with you two and your families during this difficult time. Your mother was a wonderful woman who helped me during my senior year and ensured that I had a place to live. She taught me to play bridge and I remember a wonderful vacation she took me on to the Porters at their cabin. We played bridge and they were all so patient with me. She loved to play bridge! (ha ha!) And the trips to Marcia's.
Have peace knowing she is out of pain and finally resting.
Love you load,
Your Little Sister - Raelene

Greg, Randy and Family, Barbara was such a wonderful person i had the pleasure and honor to work with. Having the opportunity to know her for the past 25+ years, she was passionate about her causes and expected nothing but the best with whom she associated with. I will miss her witty, sarcastic humor, but it will forever be engrained in my remembrance of her.

So sorry to hear the loss of your mother, to Randy, Greg and the entire family. We have been neighbors since 1973. My memories of Barbara, she would call Joe at the bank to tell him Sally has left the water on and is now watering my yard. We live just above on the hill. Never upset, just being the good neighbor she was. Rest In Peace Barb. Sally and Suzanne Baisa

I will always remember Babs as a fantastic, loving and so generous with all her help. A lot of wonderful memories from our youth until now. She is the one that wanted me to meet Tom and I and we did meet and fell in love and married. Loved her very much and will truly miss her. Love, Patty and Tom

Barbara was a co-worker and supervisor to me at the Gas Co many years ago. She was a unique lady who spoke her mind. You never doubted where she stood. I had great respect for her. Lompoc will be dimmer without her. Rest in peace, Barb.

My husband Gene, and I have many fond memories of Barbara's dedication to the Lompoc Mural Society over many years. She was part of the original core of Mural Society members who helped bring Lompoc's history alive for the whole community. She was a no nonsense lady, who could be relied on to manage the finances for the group and show up for all meetings. Lompoc has lost a wonderful friend. My husband Gene probably met her in heaven upon her arrival. My heartfelt thoughts to the family in this sad time.
