Evangelist Barbara A. Johnson-McRae, age 77, of Lorain, transitioned from her earthly labor to her heavenly reward on February 13, 2019 at Autumn Aegis Nursing Home following a lengthy illness.
She was born May 19, 1941 in Birmingham Alabama and was a resident of Lorain County since 1965.
She began her ministry at the former Chapel of the Redeemer under the pastorate of the late District-Elder Robert Burroughs. She worked with many great Christian leaders in Lorain County, including the late Bishop Samuel Cash and the late Mother Margaret Rutledge, and was a current minister at Fairfield Christian Center under Bishop Dennis R. Johnson. Evangelist Barbara Johnson-McRae was the founder of Tree of Life in Action, which was a nonprofit ministry that fed the hungry. She was a foster mom for over 38 years, where she housed and helped over 100 different children. She was known for her cooking and her compassion and her commitment to see people lives change by the power of God.
She is survived by her six children, Pastor Mark Mays, Darlene Johnson, Darrell “Bo” Johnson, Steven (Barbara) Johnson, Willie “Terry” Johnson, Reginald (Makala) Johnson; and her three adopted children, Terrence McRae, Joshua McRae, and Kenyada “YAYA” McRae; 20 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren; one sister, Violet “Vanessa” Richards; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marion McRae; her parents, Henry Pigler and Lula Jeter; her siblings, Wilbur Jeter, James Everson, and Iris Jackson.
A viewing will be held Thursday, February 21, 2019 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Fairfield Christian Center, 2002 E. 28th St., Lorain, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 22, 2019. Bishop Dennis R. Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst.
