I lived in Sumatra Indonesia. I met her knew her and fell in love with her giving spirit. She encouraged me to write. And even sent the rough draft of the "great green apple war". For me to review.
And after leaving Indonesia she sent me through my parents of course. Cheetos. The good ones not made anymore. Maybe different company. And I believe comic books as well.
And simply encouraging me to write because of my imagination.
I was 11 years old then and never saw her in person again. Yet she impressed and inspired and was so respectful. Even kids know respect. And appreciate when noticed. Especially when a gift is called out. That you do have in your spirit.
God Rest her soul.

We read "When Shoes Eat Socks" to our children 30 years ago and still have it! Great memories and one of their first diversity books. Sadly it might be banned in this day and age. Lots of love!

Barbara was my Kindergarten teacher in Salem, Illinois at Central School. I have nothing but fond memories of her.
