Barbara Knopf Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 19, 2023.
Barbara Cope Knopf, born on April 25, 1934, to the late Edna (nee Blanton) and George Cope, passed away at the age of 89 on August 17, 2023, in Cincinnati, Ohio. Barbara grew up in Detroit, Michigan, and graduated from Michigan State University. She met and married her late husband, Robert (Bob) Philip Knopf, a U.S. Air Force pilot, in Dayton, Ohio, where she was a buyer for Rike's Department Store.

After raising their daughters in Fairfax, Virginia, Barbara and Bob retired to Clermont, Florida, where they were involved in their Kings Ridge social activities and enjoyed hosting their children and grandchildren. Barbara's last few years were in Cincinnati where she was able to spend time with family.

Barbara is survived by her four daughters, Kathy Knopf (Tracy), Patty (Matt) Stahl, Lisa (Ben) Criste, and Peggy Epperson, as well as her sisters, Annie Davis and Nancy Kammers, her nine grandchildren, and her six nieces and nephews.

Barbara's wonderful sense of humor, her courage, and her love for her family will always be remembered. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother and we'll miss her tremendously, but we have great memories.

In honor of Barbara's memory, contributions can be made to the Marjorie P. Lee Retirement Community in Cincinnati, Ohio. Barbara will be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery with her beloved husband.

Every night, my mom would put me to sleep by reading me a story, playing with my hair and scratching my back slowly. She just made everything better. We became very close after I graduated high school, so much so that I called her daily to talk to her. Well, my dad put the kibosh on that when he got the phone bill. Needless to say, he wasn't happy and I was limited to calling once a week. Sometimes that was not good enough so I would just decide to drive home on a whim.
She was who I went to for daily advice, opinions, and peace of mind. She and my dad came over on a regular basis for weekly dinners and got the chance to form a strong bond with my kids.
You were the epitome of grace, acceptance, genuineness, and love. I have the funniest picture of this, but for Halloween one year, I did my parent's makeup because she wore one of my dad's suits and went as a man. I glued pieces of cotton ball to make her eyebrows bushy and did her makeup in a way where she was unrecognizable to her friends, even without his fedora hat on. My dad wore one of my dresses and many sets of my mom's pearls around his neck. I gave him one of my black hats with large white flowers on it. I did a full face of makeup on him and he looked so great. He brought out the best in her and she brought out the best in everyone.
I love you mamma xoxoxoxo

So sorry for your loss, your parents were wonderful people and I know they are happy to be together again I will never forget the many holidays we all spent together in Florida, they were like the adopted parents for all of us transplants. We´d drink wine and tell stories all night, it was if they´d never met a stranger in their lives, I feel blessed they have been a part of my life

Every night, she would rub my back and play with my hair after reading me a story.
She was an amazing woman who was the epitome of grace, genuineness, acceptance and loving. We became so close after I went to college; I found it hard to go a day without talking to her. Finally my dad had to put me on a "schedule " of only calling home once a week. He wasn´t happy with the phone bill after calling my mom daily.
She became one of my best friends and I always went to her for advice, thoughts and feedback. In hindsight, I wish I had actually taken her advice more than I did.
I know she is up with my dad, her parents and his parents; sitting around the piano having cocktails and singing to the songs my dad and her mom are playing.
I love you so much and for being the most wonderful mom in this planet
