Barbara Pauline Militello

Barbara Militello, age 86, went to her eternal rest on January 19, 2023. She was surrounded by the love and care of her sons, daughter, and daughter-in-law in her final months.

Barbara was born to Peter and Josephine Militello in Brooklyn, NY on November 14, 1936. A longtime Bronx resident, she was raised on Hoffman Street where she made lifelong friends. She attended High School at P.S. 45.

Barbara held several jobs: retail sales, food service and clerical positions in the banking industry. She was a wonderful and caring Mother to her three children, supporting their plans and providing for them. In 1969, she made the courageous move of relocating her family to Pine Bush, NY. in Orange County. There, they all enjoyed the fresh air, mountain views, small town living, and a school system which offered many activities to satisfy their interests.

In May 1971, at the young age of 34, Barbara was involved in a horrific automobile accident which nearly claimed her life. Through her strength and determination, she recovered and overcame the emotional and physical challenges. We are so grateful to have had her continued presence in our lives and admired her ability to work and even drive again.

After Barbara's children moved away to pursue their careers, Barbara once again returned to the Bronx where she had remained. A broken femur eleven months earlier, made the last year of her life especially difficult for her and her children due to medical complications, which included two hospitalizations and stays at Hebrew Home and Northern Manor Nursing Care facilities in NY.

Barbara was preceded in death by her brother Paul Militello in 1990, her father, Peter Militello in 2005, and her mother, Josephine Militello in 2010. She is survived by her children, Debra Frieary, of West Palm Beach, FL; Frank P. Carpi, of Burlington, NC; and Valerio (Danna) Carpi, of New Milford, NJ; and grandchildren, Rachel Frieary, and Joseph Frieary.

A graveside memorial service is planned on May 29, 2023 at 11:30 AM at St. Raymond's Cemetery, 2600 Lafayette Avenue, Bronx, NY, 10465.
