Barbara Mulroy Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Apr. 27 to Apr. 28, 2023.
With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Barbara Mulroy, who was born on June 23, 1940, in Brooklyn, NY. She was the daughter of Robert and Fanny (Buro). Barbara's life was filled with lots of sisters, family and many close friends, whom she loved dearly. Barbara graduated from New Dorp High School in Staten Island, NY. She worked at St. Vincent's Hospital in Staten Island for many years and retired in 2003. She was very devoted to the Associates of the Sisters of Charity in Staten Island, of which she was one of five founding Associates. She volunteered at Mt Manresa Jesuit Retreat House in Staten Island for over 20 years. She loved to help people heal with Reiki, including comforting those in the early days of the HIV epidemic. She was also a Tai Chi Master. She lived in Staten Island for most of her life, moving to Florida after retirement in 2006 to be closer to her grandchildren, as she was a loving whimsical, and devoted nana. Barbara had a passion for great food, wine, board games and movies and was an avid reader and spiritualist. She lived life to the fullest, never forgoing an opportunity to laugh and connect with loved ones.

Barbara is survived by her sister, Debbie Torchio, her two children, Larry Stanney and John Stanney, who were the loves of her life, and her two beloved daughters-in-law Karina Stanney (Polyak) and Kay Stanney (Hoftiezer). She was the incredibly proud grandmother of Sean, Kyle, Ryan, Kayla, Michael and Jack, who she always made time for and provided much love and support. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, her brother, Robert, and her sisters Edna, Julie, Patricia, and JoAnn. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.

In lieu of flowers, take someone you love to lunch, have a glass of wine, and celebrate life the way Barb did... surrounded by those she loved.

I will always remember our walks around Lake Lily and our Tai Chi there. She introduced me to this ancient peaceful form of movement. Till today I still enjoy it. Thank you Barbara, you are so missed.

What a dear neighbor, loving friend that will be greatly missed.
I enjoyed our dinners-Antonio´s, cheese cake factory, Francesco´s and I could go on and on-great times and many laughs. Just like to say that I never had dinner with anyone cleaner (just saying her side of the table never had a drop of food on it, funny as my side - well I wasn´t the cleanest).
Your friendship, kindness, honestly, thoughtfulness, elegance will be missed.
Thank you for sharing your time, happiness, love and attention.
May you RIP respectfully.

Ahh, my partner in crimes. Barbara, you will be verily missed. Your mischievious nature, your sense of humour, your generosity, loyalty and all those beautiful attributes mentioned in the Eulogy are so honest and real. There was also an edge to you which we would sooner or later unveil. But that edge was the transparency of your soul which you shared with those you cared about. The many vulnerable moments we shared are the treasures you leave me with. I thank you my sister, my friend.
