Barbara Ann Peck

Barbara Ann Peck, 66, a resident of the Greenwood section of Moosic, died Wednesday under the care of the VNA Hospice Inpatient Unit at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton. She is survived by her loving husband, Walter Peck Sr. Wed on May 11, 1968, the couple was married for 45 years.

Born in Scranton on May 16, 1947, daughter of the late Cecelia and Matthew Shimshock, Barbara graduated from the former Plains Memorial High School before earning her nursing degree from the Mercedian School of Nursing in Scranton. A proud nurse with a strong work ethic, she always enjoyed her profession. She worked for both the Mercy and Geisinger Wyoming Valley hospitals, as well as working private duty. For several years, she had also volunteered with St. Ann's Basilica Media. Of Roman Catholic faith, she was a devoted member of Divine Mercy Parish.

A loving wife, mother and grandmother, she'll never be forgotten by those who loved her.

She is survived by her children, Sherri Wagner and husband, Bob, Old Forge; Wally Peck Jr. and wife, Deanna, Scranton; and Jason Peck and wife, Jill, Moosic; and five grandchildren, Josh and Madison Wagner and Samantha, Brandon and Liliana Peck.

She was also preceded in death by a brother, Matthew Shimshock.

Her family wishes to thank the VNA Hospice Inpatient Unit's excellent staff for all their care and kindness during Barbara's stay.

Funeral services will begin on Saturday at 10:45 a.m. from the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home Inc., 517 N. Main St., Old Forge, with an 11:30 Mass of Christian Burial at Divine Mercy Parish, 312 Davis St., Scranton, to be celebrated by the Rev. Francis Pauselli, pastor.

Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
