Barbara Raffensperger (August 14, 1932 – January 15, 2018)
Barbara passed and went home to be with the Lord after losing her battle with pneumonia. Survived by Barbara Lewis Raffensperger are her 5 children; Jody Raffensperger, Brad (Tricia) Raffensperger, Neil Raffen, Gwen (Don) Thomas and Quentin Raffensperger and her brother Charles Lewis, Bluffton, SC. She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren Brenton, Kyle & Cody Raffensperger and Wade, Reid & Jay Thomas and great grandchildren Jack Raffensperger and Lola & Nox Raffensperger and her many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Paul Jay Raffensperger and parents Russell P. and Stella Lewis and sisters Jayne Black, Doris Chester and brother Russell Lewis.
Born in Philadelphia, Barbara was married to Paul Jay Raffensperger on April 25, 1953. Between business relocations that took her family to New York, Maryland and Ontario, Barbara engaged in her passion of oil and water color painting, tennis and raising her young family. As the children grew older she enjoyed great success with her new career in Canadian real estate.
With his retirement in 1990, Barbara and Paul moved to Georgia to be close to their children and grandchildren. During this time in her life she was blessed with many new friends and neighbors. Mount Pisgah UMC became a special place in her heart where her faith in Christ and service to the community was deepened and enriched. Barbara used her love for people and her outgoing personality through the Outreached Group’s visits to the assisted living homes and the special friends she ministered to there. She was a compassionate Stephens Minister; a member of the Wesleyan Sunday School Class; served many years on the board of Prime Time; delved into the Bible with her Monday Bible Study group; and joyfully participated with the Mount Pisgah Women’s Ministry. Barbara cherished her time playing Scrabble, Mexican Train, and Words with Friends with her kindred competitors.
The family wishes to thank the special friends and caregivers who attended and ministered to Barbara. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Barbara Raffensperger to Mount Pisgah missions (mountpisgah.org/give) or “dedicate your gift” at the Salvation Army website (give.salvationarmyusa.org).
A memorial service to celebrate the life and faith of Barbara will be held Sunday, January 21, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Mount Pisgah UMC, Johns Creek, GA 30022.

We had the privilege of being Paul and Barbara's neighbor when they moved to Bridle Ridge. We so enjoyed getting to know them both, and saddened when Paul left us. Yet, we were glad that we could continue our friendship with Barbara. She was spunky, sharp, and had a great sense of humor. Our hearts are heavy and we will miss her dearly. Our sympathy goes out to the Raffensperger family.
Sincerely, Alan & Connie
